I really think Tim will out point Fedor and win by a boring decision.

I like the fact that Fedor will be fighting someone worth talking about. Tim's no world beater, but he is a solid fighter and a known quantity. If nothing else, this will be a good litmus test as to how good Fedor really is. If he wants to keep that #1 status, he not only needs to win, he needs to win convincingly, as Tim Sylvia will become a shared fighter between Couture and Fedor.
I'm also interested about the rules and the ring. I know a ring has more space in it, so that should be an advantage to Fedor, since he's the quicker figher, correct? It also seems like it would be harder to stuff a takedown in a ring, since you can't really dance your way to the cage and lean against it for support.
So, does HDNet Fights have rules similar to Pride, or more like UFC in terms of using knees on a prone opponent, stomps, etc.?

If Timmy does win, how will this effect the "DREAM FIGHT" between Fedor and Couture? Ol' Timmy gets his revenge on Randy by making this fight first! haha

Yeah...I mean I do give Tim a great deal of credit for his position in the MMA HW ranks...I'm not a fan, but I respect his abilities and can't deny his record. I'm not going to outright dismiss his chances completely.
However, I just don't see this going any other way really. Tim's has typically used his size/reach fairly well and really capitalized on the fact that many opponents have overly respected it. Fedor is not going to fight like Assuerio Silva, Monson, Telligman, Arlovski III & other recent wins were Tim was able to set the pace & tone with his jab. I just do not see Fedor falling into that rut. He never has with much better strikers than Sylvia, nor has he done it against tall opponents with a huge reach advantage like Schilt or Choi.
I'm sure that Fedor has watched that footage of Couture and Arlovski dropping Tim with those right hands and realizes that despite his size advantage, big Tim seems to be continually open for that shot...for whatever reason. IMO, Fedor seems to be a quicker & much more dynamic striker than Couture....And given that fact that it worked for Randy...I would not be at all surprised to see Fedor exploit that and stun him in a similar fashion. Difference being, once it hits the ground...I think that Fedor will most likely finish quickly.

As a side note: what are the odds that Dana White did NOT know this was going to happen? This fight takes a little luster off the Fedor-Randy fight even if Fedor destroys him. Also, it offers the odd chance that Fedor might lose. If he did, how much value intrinsic in a Fedor-Randy is destroyed? How would Mark Cuban feel? Dana is one slick SOB.

How is Dana slick? He's not making any $ on this (as far as we know). It might be aired on Cuban's network. When Fedor wins, it'll just solidify that the UFC doesn't have anyone who could handle Fedor....people will still wanna see the Fedor v. Randy fight?

Amen to that. Thats why i will be cheering for Big Tim.
I would say that Fedor is a pretty huge favourite to win this. 4 to 1 atleast.
Fedor by armbar round 1.

I should have said that Dana is slick in his own mind. He has such vitriol for Randy that he might think that any fight Fedor has with anyone other than Randy is a negative for both of them. Let's not forget that it is not just the fight that will determine the degree to which this promotion is successful. There is also the production, marketing, etc. And if there is a failure on any level that leads to sub-par PPV buys, Dana will be able to say that the UFC is the "big leagues" and that these new promotions are destined to fail.
Don't get me wrong- I think Dana White is the greatest force holding MMA back. What he did with the UFC earlier this decade revolutionized the sport and made a fan out of me. But his anti-competitive views and actions over the last few years have done considerable damage to the evolution of the sport. In fact, if this card fills in as the rumors imply and the promotion is successful, it will demonstrate that the heavyweight division in the UFC is somewhat of a joke. If Fedor, Aleksander, Arlovski, and Josh Barnett (excuse me for not including Rothwell) start to fight on US soil on a regular basis against solid competition, it is possible that the UFC will have only a few of the top ten. Amen for that!

I saw it but since Randy > Tim and Dana's not getting paid, it's kinda moot.
Maybe it's Dana's secret way of good faith cross-promoting w/o admitting it. OK, I don't really believe that either...just throwing it out there for the conspiracy types.

As long as Randy isn't getting paid and Tim who is also a former UFC champ has a decent chance of winning this fight (at least in Dana's mind) it's really a win win for Dana. Dana has nothing to lose at all by dumping the unpopular Tim, and everything to gain if Tim wins a Fedor match-up. If a UFC reject can beat the so called "best fighter in the world", that makes the UFC look all that much better. If he loses, Tim wasn't the best the UFC had to offer anyway. Not moot at all.

I see what you're saying but by the same token - if Tim wins, he'd be a boon to his new organization...not the UFC.
Leaving the UFC translates into getting fights against other talent almost immediately...and that's w/o the UFC contract restrictions. Fighters will see that, see the paycheck, see the "freedom".
Regardless of the outcome, if HDNet puts on this fight, Cuban wins by getting the exposure of showing a Fedor fight.
I guess we just see this differently.

Very likely outcome. However if Tim can keep the fight standing and lets his hands go like he did against Big Nog he has a good chance of getting a KO if he can land a good shot or two. Fedor's strength lies in his ability to avoid getting hit as opposed to Big Nog, who just has a jaw of steel.

We might need a question mark for the thread title (again).
Emelianenko's manager: Sylvia fight not signed - MMAjunkie.com
Quote:
Although the two fighters appear close to an agreement, heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko (27-1) and Tim Sylvia (24-4) have not signed bout agreements for their reported July fight.
Sherdog.com first reported the bout, learning of the fight directly from Emelianenko. The fight is expected to be held under the Affliction banner and will likely air on Mark Cuban's HDNet high-definition station.
However, Vadim Finkelstein, Emelianenko's manager, threw up a caution flag and said the details are still being worked out. Additionally, a representative for Sylvia confirmed the pending status with MMAjunkie.com (MMA blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps - MMAjunkie.com) overnight.
As Finkelstein told m1mixfight.com: "At the moment we can't certainly say the bout will take place come July because the contract is not signed. However, the both parties are involved in the negotiation process and we are about to break the finishing tape although we haven't come to an agreement concerning every detail as of yet."
While Finkelstein makes the bout sound promising, it's worth noting that the Russian can be a shrewd negotiator. As MMAjunkie.com previously reported, EliteXC offered Emelianenko a four-fight deal that would have paid a minimum of $300,000 to $500,000 per fight. However, EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw later confirmed that Emelianenko and his camp wanted $2 million per fight.
Those tough practices have also apparently slowed a potential deal with the UFC, with whom Finkelstein and Emelianenko have on-again, off-again negotiations.
Emelianenko, 32, held the PRIDE Fighting Championships' heavyweight belt for more than four years before the organization's eventual demise this past summer.
Although he's defeated some of the most notable fighters in the sport, he's fought few (if any) top-tier guys in recent years. He last fought in December at the Yarennoka! New Year's Eve 2007 show, where he defeated 7-foot-2 Hong Man Choi with a first-round armbar.
Sylvia would arguably be his toughest test since an August 2005 fight with Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.

If Sylvia wins.... wow. What will he be ranked? 2 or 3? What will Fedor be ranked? Nog will once again be number 1 if Fedor loses.

A lot of questions regarding this one. As T-Bone and others have pointed out, this is far from a done deal. As long as Finkelstein is involved, its always in doubt, right up until the week it is scheduled, LOL. Monte Cox has also said its not a signed deal yet.
One thing I haven't seen yet it what surface, ring or cage, that Affliction plans on using in their events. Also, who will be the official promoter? As of two weeks ago, Affliction and Golden Boy Promotions had broken down in negotiations.
I have to believe that Dana White knew this was likely to happen when he released Sylvia from his contract. Let's also not forget that Sylvia left on very good terms and has stated a few times he looks forward to returning to the UFC in 1-2 years. So Dana knowing that this fight was on the table is probably likely. If Tim wins, he can go crazy promoting that fact. And it also indirectly hurts Couture's case. If Sylvia loses, White will ignore it and hope Fedor will just continue his popularity within the hardcore MMA community.
As Drewplata pointed out, this has to be on PPV to even have a chance of making any money. HDnet is just not available to enough people to make any money off a fight of this magnitude.
Lots of question marks.
