Tim Sylvia ranked #1?
If all the "experts" are wrong and Tim Sylvia puts an end to Fedor's reign, does that make Tim the number #1 ranked Heavyweight in the world?

No, it makes Randy Couture the #1 HW in the world. Randy used Tim's Head for a mop and his butt for a broom...and honestly, if Tim does win, I don't think Randy will even feel the need to bother with it. I don't think Tim is the better of the two (himself and Fedor), but I think Fedor's lack of top notch competition gives Tim a great shot; especially if he can fend off Fedor's takedowns as he did Nog's. Hopefully, Fedor will push the takedown issue harder than Nog and get him down early and often as needed. Better yet, I'd like to see him KO big Tim, but don't know that that will be very likely of happening.

IMO, there really isn't a #1. There are just top tier fighters, with Randy, Tim, and Fedor being in the upper part of that tier.
It's really too hard to work out who's #1. I mean, you really can't use the theory of "Randy beat Tim, so if Fedor lose to Tim, then Randy and Tim are better than Fedor".. it just doesn't work. And an example of why it doesn't work is: Wanderlei > Rampage > Chuck > Wanderlei
ugh.. my head hurts..

Nope, it won't in my rankings. It will signify the lack of competition for Fedor over the last 3 years rather than Sylvia's improvement. Nog will likely inherit my top spot on MMAonTap. His multiple losses to Fedor will be used against him, but the last loss was in December of 2004. He also finished Tim Sylvia in the last year. For me, Minotauro has greatly improved his standup IMO. That's not to say Fedor would not beat Nog again, its simply an indictment of Fedor's inactivity and lack of competition if he were to lose.
Randy will be heavily considered as well. But he decisioned Tim Sylvia, who subsequently had back surgery. Nog finished him. Thus Nog would get the edge in my rankings over Randy at this point.

Tim Sylvia already is the #1 HW in the world. He has consistently fought top competition and is a 3X UFC champ. In his loss to Randy he was legitemetly injured, not just you're standard excuse a fighter makes after a loss, but a bonified back injury. Nog caught him in a sub, which happens, even to great fighters like Sylvia. If he rematched either of those guys I think Sylvia would win 4/5 times.
It has been a long time since Fedor has fought against real competition and Tim is a big step up in class compared to his recent fights. I am predicting a 2nd rd TKO win by Sylvia, which will not only cement his legacy, but erase any doubts as to who the #1 HW in the world is.

I think this fight might be a close one even though I got to admit I hope so much that Fedor will win. I think Sylvia can give him some problems.
Mostly because fo his size, a good sprawl and heavy hands.
But then again, Fedor is actually almost in trubble everytime I see him fight
He just find a way to win........

I agree with that point of view...it's a valid point. My view/thoughts on Tim/Nog and Tim/Randy are this: Yes, Nog sub'ed Tim, but for the 3 rounds before that Tim was owning Nog. Randy, while he didn't finish Tim, dominated him for 5 rounds. IMO...Randy made Tim look like he didn't belong in the top 10. Back injury/surgery or what not...was an excuse, in my book...by Tim. As Tim himself said, in one of the interviews about the Fedor fight, Fighters fight hurt all the time. Cuts had a good point too that you can't really go off of who's beat who, but IMO Randy already is the toughest match-up for Fedor, Fedor 2-3 years ago/Fedor today. Just because of both his free-style and Roman Greco wrestling, he's no slouch in the submission dept, and has good stand-up. That is How/Why I came up with Randy being #1 if Tim wins. Normally, I agree and don't go there, but, like I said, IMO Randy already is the toughest match up out there (stylistically) for Fedor.

I think Tim could give Fedor big trouble. Mainly because Fedor's not fought great mma guys. Fedor's fight against Hong Man will help him in the size differential dept. However, like you said, Tim's got better takedown defense. But, Randy took Tim down easy and Nog didn't really go after the takedowns, Hard, until the round he got the sub...and after he'd been battered for a few rds. It'll be interesting. Fedor's takedowns will also be a little different style than what Tim is used to defending too.

Nog is #1.
Fedor hasn't fought anyone legitimate in a long time, so he's MAYBE top 5, but definitely still top 10.
Tim is close, but again he lost to Randy who's fight record is horrible considering the praise he gets. Also of note, Randy has two losses at light heavyweight which, despite being to Chuck, are still heavy losses.
And despite Tim being injured, we cannot factor injuries into these equations. Otherwise we would have to negate the results of almost every fight the UFC has ever had. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY goes into the ring at 100%. Everybody has injuries, and if you don't, you aren't training.

Tim's injury was a lower back injury. When you can't fire your core muscles it makes everything else ineffective. You have no power anywhere. So, as far as injuries go, Tim's was pretty substantial and could've been a legitimate reason for his loss. It does'nt change that Randy got the W, but it does weigh in on the quality of the W.

Fedor will win the fight without a doubt. Many heavyweights are skilled, but I've yet to see a heavyweight faster than fedor. Also, his transitions and use of his hips to get out of trouble are amazing. Nowhere is this displayed more than the fight with Randleman. Fedor gets suplexed but when he hit the ground, took just a split second to transition out of trouble. I haven't seen any heavyweight with that kind of speed.
With that said, I think Fedor will do what he always does. He will throw a bunch of punches at Sylvia. At a speed Sylvia hasn't seen. Then clinch Sylvia and throw him down. From there it won't take long for a submission.
Fedor is still #1. IMO

I think Sylvia has problems on the ground with really good submission guys. Big Nog and Mir did their thing. Honestly, Fedor is right up there with them in submission skills. The difference is, Fedor is quicker and has better striking than Mir or Big Nog.
Yeah I don't see it going any other way but a Fedor win.
You'll get your wish

As long as Fedor is still fighting and hasn't lost, I just don't see how Nog can be ranked ahead of him. Head to head is important.
