Has anyone heard of the "World Combat League"? http://worldcombatleague.com/
They are having a competition in Dallas soon and it’s been all over the radio. I was wondering if you guys knew much about it.

Actually, I think the rules are pretty similar to Kyokushin Karate standard tournament rules... only with pads and even more protective rules.

Hmm...I don't know about this. I don't understand the whole coin-toss and "fighter choice strategy" thing. However, I don't think this will be that bad. I do wish they would allow the clinch though. Maybe if it gets popular and enough people complain about it then it could be changed.
Someone mentioned that Chuck is promoting it. I just thought I should mention that the website said this is his project and that he is not just promoting it. We all need to support this because Chuck Norris is the man!

Dallas is close enough for me to go give it a try.. even if I don't care for the rules, not like K-1 ever has decent events here anyhow! Altho the most recent Hawaii event was pretty good

Well at least they can do spinning backfists, which can sometimes make for some impressive KO's. It's interesting they allow ridgehands and knifehand strikes. I wonder how those will factor with the 10 oz gloves. Even with the lightweights using the 8 oz gloves still seems odd.

World Combat League
Though the name is deceiving a bit, this new organization is basically a form of kickboxing, so I figure this is the right forum to put it.
Since I know some of our members are based in New England, there is a new event coming to Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Chuck Norris' World Combat League is putting on their second show on Jan 21, following their debut in Dallas in October. Its a team vs team concept with some pretty interesting rules. The complete rules are on the website, but one is each fight will be 2 3 minute rounds. What's odd is that the rounds are not consecutive. You fight, sit down. And wait for the second half of the team match to finish the fight! The fight order is determined initially by a coin flip and then alternately by the opposing coaches. Teams consist of 5 men and 2 women. It is full contact with gloves like K1 but it is not in a roped ring, rather its in a circle with a slanted pad outlining the edge and forcing back into the action.
Sure, this is a publicity thing for Chuck Norris. But check out the highlight of the first event on the website under the videos link. Some sick KO's including one of the ladies landing a sweet superman punch for a TKO.
I may just have to take a ride to Mohegan Sun to check this out! LMK what you guys think.

Make no doubt, its no K1. But K1 has seemingly pulled back on its commitment to stage events in the US anymore (no PPV recently or scheduled), thus it will lose popularity here.
This is more of an offshoot of the well-established ISKA organization with a league format and no ring. It could still have some decently exciting matches based on video of the first event.

I think it is good. It will never last as a pro sport but it will do something that the K-1 has never considered doing, bridging the gap between martial arts and boxing. Few people remember how well FCR did just that in the 70s and 80s. We are back at square one. The USA is a big dumb massive population and cramming K-1 down their throats will be received like the metric system. Baby steps is the best learning plan and WCL is baby steps.

World Combat League
Has anyone heard about this? It's Chuck Norris braind child apparently and it sounds somewhat like IFL without the MMA aspect. It's mainly kickboxing, karate and taekwondo, no clinches/takedowns allowed, I just finished reading an article about it in Black Belt Monthly and it sounds a little interesting but the whole no grappling thing is a bit of a turn off.

i read the same article. as much as i like kickboxing i really dislike that the WCL is point based and that there is a restriction on kicks to the legs. i guess the idea is, as you read, to make it very exciting. not something i will follow but i am sure it will have its fan base.

World Combat League
i was wondering if any of you guys have heard of it. Its a kickboxing organization founded by Chuck Norris. It's pretty brutal. You get point deductions for avoiding your opponent, or not staying active. It's fun to watch those crazy dudes jumpin around kickin each other in the head. I'm pretty sure theres a website too.
worldcombatleague.com ... i think

This thing called World Combat League was on ESPN today but I didnt get a chance to see what it was. It looked like Kickboxing, but it was set up like a damn Judo ring.
Anyone know WTC WCL is?

Ive seen some of it and its even worse than weak K-1.. its pretty much just point sparring, not even full contact kickboxing. Quite dissapointed, really. The format is equally bizarre, its like 1 three minute round. Then the next fight and soforth until they get back to the first team which goes another 3 minutes. The point system was made to keep fighters from stalling but it basically turns into a wild game of windmill punch tag.

I've seen a few on Versus channel. I wasn't too impressed, but it's better than nothing.
