No marketing strategy.

Everyone wants to be better than the UFC, but nobody has a good marketing strategy. They always think it's just showing good fights. Just showing good fights doesent cut it. You have to attract a fan base, have to keep them entertained, you have to have hype and drama to build up your organization, etc.

Without all that, the organization is doomed.

You think people watch WWE for the wrestling? Hell no. They watch it because of the knuckleheads who have all this animosity and drama and nonsense outside the cage.

Same with MMA, without the hype, the organization is doomed.

I agree, MTKrav. Also, in the marketing side of the promotion, it seriously helps to have a quality TV program that runs on a regular basis on a network that has a fairly high profile. Spike TV works wonders for the UFC. But, FSN and CSN seem to get little notice for PRIDE Fighting and the IFL. One of the basic components of the success of TNA and the WWE has been their ability to show quality programs (subjectively speaking) on TV networks like the USA network, Sci-Fi channel, and UPN (aka the CW Network).

I have often wished for a weekly UFC TV program with live fights. Forget about TUF. That is a reality TV show that is sliding down in ratings and may soon get the big cancellation from Spike TV, if it does not do better than 1.0 or 2.0 in the ratings. It certainly will be in trouble, if TUF5 scores less than a 1.0 rating. The weekly UFC show could also give results and small clips of the winners on the most recent PPV a week or so after the PPV (and replays) are off the air. I think that alone would boost the UFC into the level of WWE RAW ratings.

WFA along with ROTR, ICON, TKO, KOTC, WEC, and other smaller promotions have no TV shows that I know of, and that seemingly will lead to an end for those promotions as any sort of competitor for the UFC.

That's too bad. They put on a great show without the same ads 10 times and 10 minutes between each fight. If only the UFC would do that.

Dana White called this one. its why the guy does'nt worry. the UFC has the in house name recognition and a strong business plan that they stick to. yeah, they could pay buttloads of cash to buy the best fighters but they know that eventually the money runs out for the other promotions and the UFC will be the last man standing. the UFC is going to be the #1 MMA promotion in the world soon enough and they are doing on thier terms and not the terms of the fighters(in most cases, Tito did get what he wanted).

Although WEC gets a lot of funding from HDNET owned by Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and the Indian Casino's. And WEC doesent try to say it's competing with the UFC. It sets itself up like an amateur league, kinda like a minor league for the UFC. And that's what I love about it. In every respect, it's just like the UFC only with a smaller cage.

You have the not as experienced fighters from all the big clubs fighting in the WEC. The Pit, Punishment, Gracies, City Boxing, etc. all in the WEC and many of them move on to the UFC. I wish WEC did have a mainstream network because I like the organization.

Right now it's only on HDNET which sucks because there have been some insane wars in that organization.

Agreed,theyre starting to take better care of the guys at the very top Tito, Chuck, Franklin, etc because they're the poster boys of the UFC and they need them.

It'll be interesting to see a young tito or chuck type come up the ranks though and start to steal the spotlight from the veterans. I think maybe Vera can some day be on that level because he is very articulate and entertaining in his interviews. Check out his Mir post fight

Why do you have to hate on Diego Sánchez? He is an undefeated fighter that is stepping up and making great fights. Certainly the UFC needs more fighters like THAT! He is 5-0 in the UFC. He gave a really interesting interview on Inside the UFC. That was a good interview.

I dont dislike Diego, he's just not a good guy you want speaking for the organization.

He's a great fighter. I love what he brings to the cage. I just don't think you should go around interviewing him too often regardless of where his future in the UFC lands him.

I like his personality. He never disrespected anybody the way that Riggs or GSP or even Brandon Vera have done recently. And, of those three, I really like Vera and GSP. But, I still see that they have made questionable decisions in certain interviews. If anybody needs to stop being interviewed, it is Vera and Riggs because they run off at the mouth with a lot of profanity. They bash the guys that they dislike. And, you better believe that GSP won't be running into the octagon again to say stupid stuff like he did in the Hughes-Penn post-match interviews.

Diego Sánchez is a well-spoken and direct person that has faith in himself and his god, and he believes in himself and has been very confident. I have yet to see him say anything unprofessional or uncalled for in an interview. I think that he would be a perfect spokesperson for the UFC organization. He actually does not give very many interviews.

Ya, if you look at the last PPV payout, as a whole, it wasnt that much, but if you look at what they paid the lesser known fighters, it was more than it has been in the past. We have seen some people like Gilbert Aldonna (spelling) get paid 2K dollars to get beat down by Buentello. That last ppv had people who werent really known making around 5K. Thats not a ton of money but its not terrible either. I think it will start to look a lot better and more viable to train full time and fight. If a fighter can start getting around 10K per fight and he is active, around 5 to 6 fights per year, he could possibly train full time and fight. Note I said possibly....

I don't think Diego is disrespectful or anything like that in his interviews. But he also doesn't come across as being all that intelligent or well spoken to me. I can think of half a dozen people i'd rather see interviewed over and over before seeing another Sanchez interview.

Chuck Liddell hasn't put together a cohesive sentence in his entire career.He is one of the worst interviewees ever.Watch his Kimmell interview.I almost vomited.Nobody says anything about him though.
