WEC on Jan 20th
The now Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting is supposed to run their next sho on January 20 at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas. The main event is supposed to be between Kit Cope and Razor Rob McCullough, whose contracts were grabbed when Zuffa bought the WFA.
Anyway, the moment anyone hears that tickets are on sale, let me know. I'm keeping my eye out since I'll just happen to be in Vegas that weekend and would love to catch the show. Thanks ahead of time.

Yeah an absolute awesome announcement.
I'll take Razor Rob. He was just so sharp in the WEC events. I mean precision strikes.. Just classic tough Muay Thai 101 in all his WEC fights. Not to mention the real best KO of the year when he ko'd Olaf on Cinco De Mayhem ....

More info has finally been released for this event.
****************************************
LAS VEGAS - The World Extreme Cagefighting® (WEC™) organization announced today that it will hold its premiere event in Las Vegas live in The Joint at the world famous Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Featuring three championship bouts, the WEC will take place Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007.
"I am pleased to announce that the WEC will present it's first-ever Las Vegas fight card at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino," said Peter Dropick, WEC Vice President of Event Operations & Production. "We are looking forward to this first fight with the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and many more down the line. We plan to expand the WEC throughout 2007 and bring it to a whole new level - for WEC fans and fighters - and compete with all the top organizations in the sport."
"The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is excited to host the first WEC event Live from The Joint," said Phil Shalala, Vice President of Marketing. "The sport of mixed martial arts is a great fit with our customer and we look forward to working together in 2007 to build this exciting property."
The WEC's premiere event is already an action-packed, soon-to-be classic night of WEC fighting. Stacked with three WEC Championship bouts, the line-up features the main event matchup Kit Cope vs. Razor "Rob" McCullough in a battle for the vacant WEC Lightweight crown. Two other championship bouts build the top-heavy card, including a ferocious matchup between light heavyweights Jorge Oliveira and Doug "The Rhino" Marshall as well as WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah "California Kid" Faber in his first WEC Featherweight title defense.
Tickets for WEC will go on sale Thursday, Jan. 4 at 12 Noon. Tickets (not including applicable services or taxes) are priced at $225, $125, $50 and will be available at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino box office and all Ticketmaster locations, and by telephone at 800-929-1111 or 702-891-7777 (Smith's Food and Drug Centers, Macy's stores and Ritmo Latino). To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000. Tickets also are available for purchase at World Extreme Cagefighting or Official Ticketmaster site. Tickets for Concerts, Sports, Arts, Theater, Family, Events, more.
"I'm excited to bring the WEC to fight town, and to see our athletes in the renowned Hard Rock," said Scott Adams, WEC co-founder and head of talent relations. "This WEC will be an intense Las Vegas debut, no doubt. We're presenting three championship fights and a card loaded with fighters who are confident, aggressive and hungry to stake their claim in the new WEC."
Fighting out of his native Las Vegas, Kit Cope is four-time professional Muay Thai World Champion and a Muay Thai World Bare Knuckle Champion. Having established himself as a world class kickboxer, Cope is out to defeat McCullough and prove that he can reign supreme as the WEC Lightweight Champion. He plans to execute a perfect stand-up game and take home the crown via KO.
"I can't wait to fight in front of my hometown crowd and give them a champion," said Cope. "I'm going to win the belt by doing what I do best, standing, striking and knocking him out. I'm excited to fight in Las Vegas and give WEC fans an explosive fight finish."
Rob McCullough, fighting out of Huntington Beach, Calif., has won four of his last five fights in the WEC. He holds an overall record of 13 wins with a total of eight KOs on his pro MMA record.
"I'll prove I'm the better fighter," said McCullough. "If it goes to the ground, I'll get a submission easy, but if we stay on our feet I'll catch him there, too. There's no where he can hide, I'll chase him to the mat or to the fence. Either way I'm going to find a win."
California-natives Jorge Oliveira and Doug "The Rhino" Marshall will face each other for the vacant WEC Light Heavyweight title, and current WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber, who is on an eight fight win-streak, will make his first WEC title defense.
Additional information about the bouts will be announced in the near future.
The WEC brand is recognized as one of the best mixed martial arts organizations in the United States. Founded in 2001, the WEC has featured many of the most prominent athletes in the sport of mixed martial arts today, including Mike Swick, Chris Leben, Karo Parisyan, Chris Lytle and Joe Riggs. The WEC organization has produced 24 professional mixed martial arts events with an impressive 22 total sell-outs.

Anyone know if this is going to be televised???
On a side note, I watched Kit Cope last night on "MTV's True Life: I'm a Muay Thai Fighter." He came off as a really cool guy. His girlfriend on the other hand....

Its not going to be aired live, but chances are it may show up on the new network for the WEC, Versus. It will likely be one of the first shows of WEC on the channel.

Marshal vs Oliviera has been dropped from the card. The new poster emphasizes Urijah Faber now. The updated fight card looks like this with more to come soon:
Lightweight Fight
Josh Smith vs. Casey “The Underdog” Olson
Welterweight Fight
Carlos Condit vs. Alex “The Russian Nightmare” Serduykov
Welterweight Fight
Alex Karalexis vs. Olaf Alfonso
Featherweight Title Fight
Joe Pearson vs. Urijah “California Kid” Faber
Lightweight Title Fight
Kit Cope vs. “Razor” Rob McCullough
I think this could be a pretty good card for the first show under Zuffa. Condit can be nasty with good wins over Trigg and Verissimo before losing by decision to ultra talented Jake Shields in ROTR. Casey Olson is going to be a future star. Karalexis always swings for the fences, the same thing can be said for Olaf. And both title fights have great excitement potential. Two muay thai experts in Cope and McCullough and two wrestling wizards in Faber and Pearson out of MFS. Both have viscious GnP from what I've seen.
I'm sure more fights will be added as well. I'll be there.

All of McCollough's fights are fun to watch. he's definitely an up an comer in MMA.
33-2 in Thai Boxing (REAL MT) in Asia, and now like what 8-0 in MMA or something like that?
I've never been disappointed watching one of Razor Rob's fights. Kid is one tough SOB with some BEAUTFIUL strikes.
