    Default The WEC Media Tour

As part of my media access for the blog I help out on, I occasionally get press releases for MMA. Here's the latest from the WEC, promoting its Versus premiere but more importantly, giving details to Open Public Workouts. Check it out if it comes to a city near you.

WEC AND VERSUS TO HOST NINE-CITY MEDIA TOUR COAST TO COAST MAY 14-24 WITH FIVE WEC FIGHTERS

WEC ON VERSUS LAUNCHES JUNE 3 AT 9 P.M. ET

WHAT: World Extreme Cagefighting® (WEC™) and VERSUS will host a nine-city media tour coast to coast in local gyms to promote the first ever live televised WEC event. VERSUS first live WEC event will feature “The California Kid” Urijah Faber and the “Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit. The fight will originate from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and air live on VERSUS June 3 at 9 p.m. ET. The media tour will make stops in the following cities: Sacramento, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Miami, Tampa Bay, Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, and New York.

World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) is the mixed martial arts organization owned by Zuffa, LLC, the recognized leader in the world of MMA. As part of VERSUS’ initial coverage of World Extreme Cagefighting, the network will present three live fights and six one-hour event specials; a show that features the best matches from prior WEC events.

The WEC organization has produced 26 professional mixed martial arts events with an impressive 24 total sell-outs. The quality of the competition between the greatest mixed martial arts performers in the world will deliver compelling competitive content to the VERSUS audience. The live events will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and the hour-long event specials are a taped compilation of the best live WEC fights never before seen on television.

WHEN: Monday, May 14 – Thursday, May 24 (Full schedule follows)
WHO: WEC fighters on media tour include: “The California Kid” Urijah Faber, “Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit, Brian Stann, Charlie Valencia and Alex “The Assassin” Karalexis. (Bios for each of the fighters follows.)

“The California Kid” Urijah Faber, 27-years-old, is the WEC Featherweight Champion with a professional MMA record of 18-1. Faber's style of punishing takedowns, ground and pound and vicious slam submissions have made him one of the new stars of the sport. He owns and operates Ultimate Fitness training facility in Sacramento, CA.

“Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit the 23-year-old Welterweight holds a professional MMA record of 19-4-0. Regarded as one of the best young welterweights in the world, Condit combines an aggressive style reminiscent of old-school MMA. His no-nonsense striking is backed up by a top-notch ground game, with his submission skills has made him a force in the MMA world.

Brian Stann is a 26-year-old lightheavyweight with a professional MMA record of 3-0. Brian graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2003 and is currently an Infantry Officer in the United States Marine Corps. A recipient of the Silver Star after two tours in Iraq, Stann combines a phenomenal work ethic with punishing hands and a well-rounded game. Currently in charge of a 700-Marine headquarters company based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Stann has yet to let an opponent get out of the first round.

Charlie Valencia the 32-year-old Bantamweight contender from Los Angeles has a professional MMA record of 7-2. Valencia is an expert submission artist. His explosive style in the cage has earned him a reputation as one of the rising stars in MMA.

Alex “The Assassin” Karalexis A Boston native, Karalexis is considered one of the most exciting fighters in the game. His willingness to stand and trade with any opponent has earned him a reputation as a fan favorite. Karalexis has a solid 8-2 record and is looking for a chance at the WEC Welterweight title in the near future.

Glad to see the WEC keep growing Too bad Houston is 6 hours away, I have always liked Carlos Condit AND Charlie Valencia.
