Default Affliction Banned Hits New York

The MMA Craze

By Brian Holt, theMMAcraze.com

Affliction has now started to really crank up the hype machine for it's "Banned" card on July 19th. With Donald Trump as a partner, the decision was made to hit his hometown in a big way. A billboard is now up in Times Square with the images of 10 of the fighters appearing on the card including Tim Sylvia, Fedor Emelianenko, Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski and Renato "Babalu" Sobral.

“Considering the magnitude of this fight, and the partnership between Affliction and Donald Trump, it seemed only fitting that the huge talent pool on the ‘Affliction Banned’ show should be seen by millions in New York’s Times Square,” said Tom Atencio, Vice President, Affliction. “You know it’s a big show when you have a billboard on Broadway.”

The "Affliction Banned" card is now being split into 2 live shows with the first hour of the event being dubbed "Affliction Live" and broadcast free on Fox Sports Net. This portion of the show will include 2 bouts while the remainders will follow the FSN telecast on pay-per-view.

"Affliction Banned" is the debut show for the MMA apparel company and features a main event between former Pride Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia. The card is arguably one of the greatest collections of talent assembled in the United States and estimates on the fighters pay have ranged as high as $6 million.

The event will be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

I would be more excited if I had Fox Sports Net.

Thanks for the info, snake. I was wondering when Trump would do something to promote. He has a pretty large audience there in the city.

Nice, those 2 fights alone make it worth watching. Its gonna be a night full of MMA and I am really looking foward to it. I am glad the UFC and Affliction both are having shows and I hope they both do well b/c the more MMA the better as far as I am concerned.....

Seriously, this card gives me a feeling of absolute satisfaction and I haven´t had that since Final Conflict 2006.

I'm pretty stoked about it too...very nice card imo. What are your thoughts on the Fedor/Sylvia fight Seikan?

I think Fedor is going to take the fight to the ground very early and win by some kind of submission. The fight I really want to see is Fedor vs. Barnett. I´ve been waiting for that fight for 2 years now. Fedor has gained a lot of criticism lately, due to him not fighting top competition. Fighting Sylvia, and Barnett ( who is a top 5 fighter), would silence that. Couture is obviously moer interested in seeing his Wife getting her Jaw broken and a fight between him and Fedor is seeming more unlikely as each day passes.

Those were my thoughts intially too, regarding Fedor. But, after watching the Sylvia/Big Nog fight I can't help but wonder how much trouble will Fedor have getting Tim down; especially since Fedor's not fought top tier competition lately.

True, but Nog wasn´t really putting too much effort into the takedown attempts. I think Fedor will have absolutely no problem taking Tim down. The greatest part of this is, that we will be able to see the result in only 7 more days.

I hope Fedor takes him down and out inside a 1:30 of RD 1...to be brutally honest. I like/respect Big Tim more than I used too, but still am not a big fan. I also want to see Fedor wax him out convicingly to set the Couture/Fedor fight up hopefully.
