Cage Rage 27 report
Full report available here.
Quote:
The ever-controversial Phil Baroni secured both his first win fighting in a new country and a new weight class in the main event of Cage Rage 27 with his first round stoppage of Londoner Scott Jansen.
However there was as much drama after the devastating knockout as before it when a corner-man, believed to be the brother of the fallen opponent, delivered a headbutt to the former UFC star which resulted in an unsavoury scene that will do nothing to improve the British image of mixed martial arts.
Competing in the 170 lbs division having previously spent his entire career in the middleweight class, the New York Bad Ass travelled to England looking for the decisive win necessary to get his career back on track after high-profile losses to Frank Shamrock, Kala Hose and Joey Villasenor.
His opponent always looked over-matched on paper and had never previously competed on a main Cage Rage card before this evening, let alone a main event going live on free view television.
Baroni seemed to adopt a similar tactic to that used when having previously Yosuke Nishijima after coming off a loss to Kazuo Misaki. The determination on his face was evident and the mentality seemed to be “win at all costs” and recreating his usual crowd-pleasing style not on his immediate list of priorities.

Why does Cage Rage always seem to draw 'chav moments' such as this one? Sad to see something like that happen. Kudos to Baroni for the fight he put on though.
Al-Turk was impressive as usual. Didn't catch the rest of the event.. Proelite used to stream the Cage Rage shows worldwide, but this time I had to rely on less reliable means of watching this event.
Good writeup. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for contributing to the forum and not just linking to Total MMA and running into the shadows

I get the impression this was sarcastic but in general there doesn't seem a lot of UK talk here.
Al-Turk was impressive but he's a strong grappler fighting a K-1 dude - the first round submission always looked the likely outcome. I look forward to his fight against Grove should it happen.

It's true Sky Sports didn't air this show (nuts TV did - which is a sky / freeview channel) but I think they are negotiating with regards to future events.
I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed on Nuts for a while as that seems a better fit for where they are at present.

Thanks I'll look on daily motion tomorrow I really wasjust interested in baroni's fight and the ensuing headbutt. Baroni might be well past his peak but I wouldn't wanna headbutt him might turn me into Dave Menne V 2.0

Yeah, he obviously took enough steps forward for that to be a charging call if this was hockey.
Hopefully Mark Coleman finally caught him and gave him a beatdown. Baroni was just going to see how the fighter he KOed was, give him a hug/daps, and talk to the other fighters corner. It was postfight etiquette 101 but apperantly the fat man in yellow didn't know that.

The thing that is annoying me the most was that Baroni seemed to be being classy about. He didn't follow the knock out with a flurry like a lot of people do and he was checking on the other guy when he got head butted. Also some tramp was giving him the finger and stuff.
His corner probably just cost the guy who got KO'd his career with Cage Rage.

The thing that annoyed me most is that Baroni had his hands on the brothers waist which is about as unaggressive as you can be. As far as I'm concerned it was a cheap shot.
I hope he doesn't ruin his brothers chances of fighting again for cage rage, which is probably exactly what he has done.

Good writeup, Iain. "The yellow-jumpered" - what a jackass. Baroni should get a free shot at him.
