I think Diaz's striking game is good and I for one enjoy watching it. I can not stand KJ Noons, granted he beat Nick by a cut which I can hardly call a win IMO. But KJ talked all this crap after there first fight and repeatedly refused to fight Nick again and after EliteXC goes away and KJ starts losing boxing matches all of the sudden he wants to fight nick again after Nick has started to really make a name for him self in Strikeforce.

I do not feel that a really good striker would pose huge problems for Nick, some problems but I still feel Nick is one of the toughest dudes in MMA, he can taking a beating and wont quit or even slow down.

I think Diaz has found a way to make his weaknesses work for him. He's not a power puncher so when he does set up for the power punches, it's after dozens of "feeler" punches that do accumulative damage. And those power punches are to a BIG area: the midsection. Greater chances of scoring and less expected. His antics are for show. Like he said after the fight, "don't believe everything you see. It's a show." He may or may not be an asshat, but his antics throw people off their game. Makes them careless. As for the big hits he did take from Smith, it looked like he wasn't fazed much by them, since his defense allowed only few and infrequent bombs from landing. He doesn't have a glass chin like Arlovsky, but he doesn't slip and elude like Machida either. His hitting style doesn't allow for it. He needs to be in his opponents face, deflecting and "pecking" with his punches. Plus his outstanding ground game capitalizes on his opponents reaction to "escape" the rain of blows if they attempt a takedown. Like I said last night, taking Diaz down is like giving a fat guy candy.

Who can beat Diaz? Someone with reach and who can trade accurate power punching against Diaz's pitter-patter. And that someone better do it early in the fight, not when he's bruised and battered by the accumulation of damage. I think that person doesn't necessarily need to be a submission specialist, but just savvy enough to stuff takedowns and strong enough to get back up if he does get taken down. Strangely enough, maybe someone like Guida. Or someone who can implement Guida's kind of relentless attacks.

I don't buy the Diaz hype. Let's be honest I don't like the guy, he definately has some skills though. He's showing improved stand-up but I still don't think he could hang with the better strikers. His ground game would be a threat to anyone, but I still don't see him hanging the the top of the division in the UFC, whether it's LW or WW.

Which doesn't explain why so many fighters dislike him outside of the cage as well.

If If If dude....that's what fighting is all about. If Fedor didn't land that big overhand, would Arlovski have won that fight? If Guida woudn't have taken that knee, would he have fought and beaten Ken-Flo after dominating Huerta to a UD?

Power or not, getting beat is getting beat dude. Maybe if Smith landed with one of his big, wild, hooking shots, then just maybe, he would have gotten the W.

    But he didn't.
    agreed.

Diaz isnt gonna probably ever be a One Punch KO guy. But he'll pepper your head with 30 punches a minute and getting hit is getting hit dude. It's never fun.

When you get hit your brain shimmies, you're all dizzy, even though you're nto KO'd? You're def not thinking straight. And to get hit 30 or so times a minute which is about the rate Diaz was landing?

Agree, why would Nick use his BJJ.

Except how he did it last night. Drop dude, take his back choke him out, game over.

Perfect game plan by Nick Diaz.

Diaz's punching stats were amazing lol

I love his style, but yeah he'd lose to someone with top stand up and solid ground defence.

He'd lose to say an Anderson Silva or someone else who has great stand up and really long arms. Smith's got good stand up...but he was seriously lacking in the reach dept.

Personally I don't think Smith has good stand up at all.

He doesn't do anything what so ever but throw huge punches and does not move his head.

Agreed.. Smith has good power but on the technical side, his boxing is lacking. His head movement and footwork are very basic and he doesn't really mix it up at all..

Watched the vid for the first time. Scott Smith threw almost no kicks, no knees. He stood outside, let Diaz use his reach and got peppered the entire time.

    Isn't Smith a Muay Thai practioner ?

I'm curious to what you mean by the hype? Nick has been in the game almost 10 years now. Wins some, loses some. He has fought a lot of the top fighters in and around his weight class. He has always come in great shape and fought hard. Whether you like him or not, or think he is a champion or not, I think he has long since earned his respect as a fighter. Unless I just completely mistook you're meaning, in that case, I apologize.

Yeah, I think he's earned his respect as a very solid fighter, no doubt. And he is a true warrior. Maybe I'm just reading too much into some responses, I just don't think what I've seen in his last 2 fights proves alot when it comes to his abilities to hang with better fighters and I don't think he'd be top 5 in any UFC division. I'd like to see him in the UFC again though.

There are some Diaz fans here, no doubt.

Hey...some like Nick Diaz, others like Mike Goldberg.

Take CP, for example. Sometimes we can't get him to stop hugging on Nick Diaz.

I see what you're saying. There are plenty of "what have you done for me lately" type of fans no matter where you go. I've been watching Nick Diaz a long time, I just think he's a good fighter. Not greatest or best or anything. I've watched him get his butt whipped, and I've seen him kick some too. For the most part I leave everyone to their opinions, but I do get upset when fighters who have put in their work don't get credit when it is due. But I'm with you, I don't like overhype either. Cheers
