Wow, big post. Did the hate come from this forum? I would say this forum is pro Fedor.
I personally like the 'idea' of an invinsible guy like Fedor and to a lesser extent (cause he had fights he could have taken but didn't) Rickson.
Every time I get on an MMA forum, I read some thread about how overrated or protected or scared of the UFC Fedor is. There are people constantly trashing Fedor and saying many rude and uncalled for and mostly untrue things about him. Now I understand that fans have their favorite fighters and also some fighters who they dont cheer for and may even cheer against. I certainly have some of my own. But why all of the anger towards Fedor. First of all Fedor is a very nice and humble man. Its not like he is cocky like Frank Mir or Brock Lesnar. He doesnt talk trash like Rampage or Tito. He is nice to fans and other fighters also. He seems courtious in all interviews and appears to be a genuinly nice person. So I dont see hate for him in that regard.
As a fighter, he is regarded by all other fighters, as the greatest heavyweight in the world. Joe Rogan has said so on Ufc broadcasts even. It is the common belief that Fedor is the number one heavyweight and in the top 3 pound for pound. Thats not some bias fans saying that. It is the people who have walked besid and trained with the other fighters and Fedor and they believe Fedor is the best. Its the experts..That call Fedor the best. The only people who say he isnt are... Dana White, and the "against Fedor fans" and thats all.
Here are the facts... Fedor is 30 -1. Yes that is a loss. Contraversial or not its a loss. The man has 7 kos or tkos, 16 submissions and 7 decisions. That equals 23 finishes out of 30 fights. That is awesome.... only 7 decisions, all of which he dominated. And he has done it against guys who where in there prime. His loss was due to a cut... Kinda like when Randy Couture lost the belt to Vitor Belfort due to an accidental cut. It was a tournament and someone had to continue. It wasnt possible for a NC so it counted as a loss. Yes it is a loss...
On the other hand. We have seen Fedor be outwrestled and win by armbar. We have seen him out boxed and win by ko. We have seen him get badly hurt and not change his expression and return fire and win my submission after beating them down. We have seen him get suplexe on his head and roll into a kamara. He usually dominates buy he has been tested and has passed with flying colors. He got kicked in the head by Cro cop and still dominated Cro Cop. All while staying humble....
Fedor has changed the fighters that he dominated. He made them have self doubt. If you will notice, everyfighter that fights Fedor loses and then loses heart. They know that they will never be the best.. But they still have love for Fedor. Because he is so good of a man and fighter and person..
My Opinion is that people get tired of hearing how great he is and the cant wait to tear him down. Kinda the root for the underdog thing. And everyone is the underdog so to cover the base some chose to hate the guy at the top and that is Fedor.. Kinda like when everyone was rooting for the Giants over Patriots in the Super Bowl.
I would love to see Fedor fight in the Ufc. And he said that he wants to but I understand where he is coming from. There are certain things that he loves in his life and the UFCs current contract offered to Fedor would interfear with some of those things. Affliction was able to comprimise so why cant the UFC. That being said. Fedor has managed to keep fighting some top guys outside of the UFC. He fought Tim Sylvia (yes he was in the top 10 at the time). He fought Andre Arlovski ( ranked number 3 at the time) and now he is fighting Josh Barnett. (Ranked number 2 in the world currently). Fedor will win and Barnett will stumble for then on. And people will once again discredit Fedor. But after that fight. There will be noone left for him to face outside of the UFC. Then and only then do I believe that the UFC and Fedor will reach a contract.. Bottom Line.. Fedor is recognized as the Number one heavyweight in the world by the majority of experts and fighters and fans and he is an amazing person and great ambassitor of the sport......

You always have people who are on both sides of the argument. For every person that says he is overrated, there is somebody else that says he is unbeatable.
I prefer to take the middle ground.

No the hate hasnt come from this forum. I am new to this one and havent really read alot on Fedor yet. Buy on most forums I read have alot of Fedor Bashing. I am a Huge Fedor Fan obviously, buy I am also a realist. I just have trouble with bashing a fighter who is really good and also a good guy. Anyone can be beat and anyone can beat anyone on any givin night. And I seriously doubt that Fedor turned down a fight with Rickson out of fear of losing or anything like that. Ps who has Rickson beat to make a fight with Fedor Meaningful.. What danger could he present that Nogueira in his prime didnt...... Sure was a pioneer. But thats kinda like Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes exept worse...
There are extremists everywhere. Obviously I am a huge Fedor fan, I don't think he is invincible. Like the OP, I love him for his attitude, his ring presence, his demeanor, and I think the true way to rank a fighter is through his peers. And nearly every single fighter who is ever asked, says Fedor is number 1. That means a lot more to me than what a critic says. I don't understand the hate either. What's there to hate?
I will quote LL Cool J

No fight between Fedor and Rickson, although I'm sure it was proposed at some point, I was saying him and Fedor have been looked at as unstoppable. I just put a side note on Rickson because he didn't fight some of his contemporaries during his 'rein'. Fedor has to this point, at least the guys he could fight outside the UFC.
Fedor is the top HW in the world, but people act like he is unbeatable and are just all over his balls. THat's my only problem with Fedor, other than that I'm a fan he seems like a cool guy.

Fedor is awesome but come on, he's no Lyoto.![]()
I think this is along the lines of what the OP was trying to get at. So my question to you would be; Why is that Fedor's fault?
Let's say I get all over these forums and start spouting how great Fedor is, he is unstoppable, every other fighter sucks etc.. Why not hate me for that? It is a common theme in forums like this. Not just with Fedor. But we see it with Machida now, Brock. Some members will say how great they are, and then others will start to dislike that fighter based on their fanbase. It's just a disappointing way to look at fighters, when all they are trying to do is fight their ass off and make a living.
I get the same feelings about fighters, so I'm not trying to call you out or anything Nate. However I do try to make an effort to be objective when I look at a fighter and set aside the feelings I have about their fans reactions.

People will stop hating him when he loses lol.
I love the guy but at first I knew nothing about him.
I didn't hate him I just didn't know him.
The only time I dislike a fighter is when that fighter represents himself in a way that makes me dislike him.
Other then that it's the nut huggers that get on my nerves & won't admit when their fighter has a weakness or has even lost.

What he said^^^^^^^
Also a lot of people do not know much about him other than Affliction. Only reason I know of him other than Affliction is because the reruns of pride a year or two ago and the internet. Most people know nothing about him other than a couple fights and that everyone talks about how great he is but not much too back it up (that is WELL known that is). I like Fedor but I still do not see him in my mind as being this almighty power, probably becasue I did not watch his early fights when they were live (or first coming out)
It is hard to really like a fighter if you have not followed him but everyone says he's great all you see is a couple fights and here about the past stories.
And of course anyone that is talked up a lot will be hated regardless.
I honestly think to win the fans over he needs to be in the UFC. Most people do not even think of MMA, it's always UFC. I am a fan I just don't have a mind set of him being this almighty power (That he may actually be).
I think any competitor is going to have their critics, no matter what the sport...from a fans perspective it's part of the enjoyment of sport. For every critic that says Fedor made an impressive comeback there'll be another critic that says "if he was that good he wouldn't have been forced to make a comeback". It made me laugh when some people were criticizing Fedor's punching technique that ko Arlovski.
I don't think Fedor thinks he needs the UFC right now, which is a bit odd to majority of mma fans because the ufc is the big show and some fans misconstrue this as a lack in desire to fight at the top level and top level competition.Therefor some people think he's over rated, over hyped.....
Right now I don't think Fedor does need the ufc, Affliction have been providing better fights for him than the ufc could.
The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.
