Sambo seems to be quite similar. Of course there are differences. But I'm sure Fedor's elite level of Sambo would allow him to deal with most situations in grappling.

Fedor not training in Ju Jitzu is not that reason he was submitted. That has more to do with him being careless.

It's always hard to tell what is real because of the translation and what not. If he does not train JJ that is crazy.

I'll leave the argument alone on which is better, but the fact is that the large majority train JJ and if you do not it seems that you would be at a disadvantage. You might not know the proper escapes. I would not think that the escapes to the specific moves in Sambo is the same as BJJ.
