Haha. It's so funny to see how someone is so against IFL. It makes for a interesting read, so I thank you for that. As sub g pointed out the possibility of failure is there for anyone. Not just the IFL, even your coveted UFC, as well as Pride. To think that one company can't surpass the other is ridiculous. And to say that it hasn't had a chance to flop yet since it hasn't had it's first show while it is true, it is not going to be the deciding factor. You probably don't realize how much Shamus and Otto are not lacking in the funds department. They are "in it for the long haul" as they have stated and even if they take a loss on their first show they aren't just going to quit. Plus if you don't think it's huge that they already have a TV deal without even having 1 show yet then you are very misinformed about what a big deal it is. How long did it take (the new) UFC to get on TV? About 5 years maybe. How many millions of dollars were they losing just to make it where they are now? I don't even know but I know it was lots and lots. Fretitta's are rumored to have lost over 20 mil.

IFL is going to pay better than the UFC so it's only a matter of time before it starts getting the top name fighters. In two years tops the IFL is going to be at least on equal ground with the UFC. It's already a step up having it's tv shows on a well recognized sports chanel instead of Spike which is known as a guys action chanel.

Hopefully though with IFL making a point about paying its fighers well it'll force the UFC to up thier payscale and benefit the sport as a whole.
To Americans, PRIDE FC is small and unimportant BECAUSE it CANNOT make it here in the USA. I know people that are not American hate to hear this, but the good ole USA sets a standard no matter what. PRIDE is a Japanese promotion that holds events almost exclusively inside of Japan. They, like the UFC in Vegas, seem rooted (or stuck) in the Tokyo Dome in Japan. Sure, a lot of foriegn fighters go there, but there are also foriegn fighters in the UFC. The American market is bigger.

The IFL is in America, and going head-to-head with the UFC. Where is PRIDE FC? Japan? Why no PRIDE FC events in Canada, Mexica, the USA? Because PRIDE is predominantly been composed of Japanese fighters that Americans have never heard of... There are like 85 or 90 Japanese MMA fighters in PRIDE FC. Maybe 45 or 50 Brazilians. There are 37 other fighters from other Western nations except the US and Russia. About 66 American have fought in PRIDE over the years. Most listed at the PRIDE website are not in PRIDE anymore.

Yeah but where are the UFC events in Japan? Where's the Japanese UFC website? Where is the UFC Japan promoting team? To say that the American market is bigger is not true. MMA is mainstream in Japan. It isn't still striving to get there like the UFC is in USA. MMA doesn't have the same reputation in Japan that UFC does in America trying to get rid of the old "human cockfighting" and blood and guts image that SEG was promoting and that people still reference it as today. Pride and K1 have their shows on free TV that are on PPV over here. The thing that a lot of people don't understand is Pride isn't directly competing with UFC. They are in competition with K1. UFC is nothing to them just as people say that Pride is nothing in the USA. Just as you say that Pride is held exclusively in Japan the same is said for UFC being exclusively in USA as well as the Japanese fighters that no one has heard of the same can be said for all the American's to the Japanese fans.

I agree. The UFC is afriad, I assume, of failing in Japan. I think that PRIDE feels the same way about the US. PRIDE FC TV shows in the US seem to get zero or little notice outside of perhaps PPV. You are right that the MMA market is not big in the USA, but the North American market as a whole is larger and the potential to totally eclipse all other MMA rests in America and not in Japan, IMO. PRIDE has TV shows on FSN/Comcast and K-1 has events on ESPN. All of them are old and dated. UFC Unleashed is far superior. Your last three sentences are dead on right.

i just visited the IFL website and i have to disagree with you. the IFL format takes MMA closer to real sport status than the UFC currently does. the idea of teams has been part of fighting for a long time, you have wrestling teams and boxing teams. why not MMA teams? i know i will certainly watch. imagine the possibilities should more teams emerge? the UFC had better be scared because i think the IFL has officially brought the best format to the arena.

I have to disagree, the UFC is AT real sport status -- not close to it. Same for PRIDE and the IFL. The IFL is "closer" to "team" sports. Single competitio IS real sports. There does not have to be a team to make an event a sport.

Holy crap! I agree with you!

I definitely think the UFC has brought MMA to sport status and there's only a few things to bump it up a bit more. The IFL does bring alot to promote MMA as a sport including the better fighter salaries which I think is going to be fantastic for the sport.
