Default Joe Doerksen signs with IFL Toronto Dragons

Manager Monte Cox has confirmed that Joe Doerksen has signed a deal to fight in the International Fight League.

Although full details were not disclosed, the deal isn't just to bring him in for a one-off "super fight" or single bout. Doerksen has actually signed to compete as part of the Toronto Dragons team, which is coached by Carlos Newton.

Doerksen is one of the more high-profile names to actually sign to fight as part of a team in the IFL. The majority of the team fighters have come from a talent pool of up-and-coming younger fighters. At 28 years of age, Doerksen is far from "over the hill," but he is one of the more experienced fighters to join the team ranks. Doerksen has a career record of 35-9 and has had stints in seemingly every MMA promotion around the world.

Though he had a rough go of it in the UFC, with a UFC record of 1-3, Doerksen's credentials are solid. He jumped into the spotlight by winning the finals of the middleweight tournament that was co-promoted by Extreme Challenge and Superbrawl in 2003.

Doerksen has been busy over the past few months. Since dropping a unanimous decision to Nathan Marquardt in the UFC in March, Doerksen has picked up one win each in April, May, and June.

Doerksen is scheduled to make his IFL debut for the Toronto Dragons on September 23rd when the IFL heads to Moline, Illinois. Doerksen's team will be taking on the Mark Coleman-coached Columbus Razor Claws on a card that features a main event fight between coaches Pat Miletich and Renzo Gracie.

TORONTO GETS AN IFL TEAM?!? That's awesome. How soon can I order gear? What's sad is it'll be a cold day in hell before they actually get to hold an event here.
