Default Cage Rage TV Programme (UK)

From CR's Myspace blog:

Quote:
Cage Rage Championships to Produce Flagship Show for The Wrestling Channel

Broadcast Date: "Cage Fighter": Monday 4th December. 22:00 Sky Channel 427

Next Event Date : Cage Rage 19: Fearless – Saturday 9th December, Earls Court.

After weeks of negotiations The Cage Rage Championships (CRC) can now release that they have signed a contract to be the flagship show of The Wrestling Channel (TWC) as the channel embarks upon a shift in programming from 4th December. The show "Cage Fighter", which is produced and presented by CRC promoters Andy Geer and Dave O'Donnell, will broadcast from 22:00 to 23:00, six days a week, Monday to Saturday on Sky Channel 427.

"We are absolutely thrilled and excited with the deal we have struck with The Cage Rage Championships," said Sean Herbert, head of programming for TWC.

"This series of first run, brand new programming will secure TWC as the home of MMA in the UK."

The magazine format TV show will feature CRC footage, exclusive backstage access at events as well as studio interviews with the top MMA fighters and celebrity guests. It will be the daily injection of MMA for hardcore fans and accessible enough to expose the sport to a larger audience.

"TWC are providing a strong platform for MMA and we're all confident that there will be huge benefits for both CRC and TWC" said Andy Geer of the new deal.

The series contract has been signed until 2007 with the first programmes already recorded. The first episode of the series broadcast at 10pm on Monday 4th December will be a "Super Card Show" examining world class fighters such as Melvin Manhoef and Anderson Silva, both Cage Rage World Champions. Further shows will spotlight Jean Silva, rising showman Lee Doski and guest spots with British MMA boys Alex Reid, Dave Legeno and Mark Epstein

The deal will expose CRC to a larger market and will move the promotion from the most covered MMA event the UK to one of the largest in the World. It is hoped that the predominately family audience of TWC will become educated towards MMA as well as CRC fans being introduced to the channel. The Sky Sports 3 'Live Event' programme, which now has viewing figures of around 120,000, will not be effected but 'Cage Fighter' is hoped to add to the live event by offering an in depth look at the techniques of the sport, the personality of its fighters and explore MMA's indisputable rise across the world.

2006 has seen a series of landmark events for CRC from the media partnership deal with Nuts Magazine, a 280% increase in attendance and a move to the prestigious location of Wembley Arena. To end a spectacular year Cage Rage Championships 19: Fearless will be held at the prestigious Earls Court on 9th December. Even bigger and better things are in store for CRC and with a TV show six nights a week you'll be able to keep up to date with all of the CRC and MMA current news!
This is great news imo, apparently TWC are re-organising their schedule and including a lot more MMA, including KOTC and some European shows!

Not sure if you can get it on Telewest, check the website, it might tell you on there if you can get it or not.

I think Nimmy meant TWC is available on Freeview?

I think its great that the Cage Rage promotion is getting put on TV, however, it makes me a bit hesitant to see that its on the TWC, The Wrestling Channal. I wish that the MMA community would do what it can to keep itself from being associtated with professional wrestling. It isnt good for its reputation and it doesnt need anymore rumors of fixed fights and what not.

It is good to see that there is enough demand and fanbase in the UK that they put the show on TV and I hope it does very well.

TWC is actually a pretty good channel, despite how it sounds. They show a lot of the smaller UK orgs such as FX3, House of Pain and Cage Warriors which the other channels dont show. I think they're not re-scheduling to include a lot more MMA such as this CR show and also some KOTC shows. I also heard rumours that they're thinking about changing they're name to the Combat Channel or something like that.

Funnily enough, somebody on the Cage Warriors forum posted a link to a thread on the TWC forum about this program and the channels support for MMA and all the wrestling fans were going mad! They hate MMA lol and dont want wrestling to be associated with it. No joke, one of them even made a reference to MMA/ground fighting being like gay porn

Just seen this on Cage Warriors:

Quote:
Pro wrestling plus MMA plus TV = TWC Fight!

From Monday 4 December, The Wrestling Channel becomes TWC Fight! (www.twcfight.com): the world’s most diverse professional wrestling and mixed martial arts TV channel. It will continue to air free of charge across the UK and Ireland on Sky channel 427.

The rebranding marks several new programming agreements:

· An expansion of the channel’s mixed martial arts (MMA) programming, which will now include Cage Warriors, Gladiator Challenge, King of the Cage and a dedicated UK MMA show.

· A daily show, Cage Fighter TV, produced exclusively for TWC Fight! by the Cage Rage promotion.

· The Mayhem Fighting Series: 2 hours a week of MMA from around the world, including the popular Jungle Fights events from Brazil.

But pro wrestling fans need not worry as TWC Fight! brings more good news:

· A new concept, Real Quality Wrestling, will break down promotional barriers to showcase the best of British wrestling.

· The exceedingly-popular World of Sport will now have five first-run episodes from the ITV archives each week.

· Four shows from the channel’s original launch (Memphis Classic Wrestling, GAEA Japan, 3PW and Shoot Interviews) are to re-run for the benefit of new viewers, while the late-night Bloodbath slot returns.

· As well as the previously mentioned shows, TWC Fight! will continue to show the widest range of first-run wrestling including Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling NOAH, Memphis Wrestling and LDN Capital TV, plus Classic TNA from the Nashville era. Up-to-date TNA programming (iMPACT!, Xplosion and the monthly supercards) will also continue to air for the foreseeable future.

TWC Fight!’s head of programming Sean Herbert said the new programming reflected the diverse audience built up by the channel. “We know there are a growing number of crossover fans, but that our viewers also include wrestling diehards and MMA purists. TWC Fight! is our way of making sure we suit all tastes, with up to 35 hours of original programming each week.

“We’ve taken great care to expand the MMA output without detracting from our wrestling coverage. TWC Fight! now features a wider variety of promotions than any other channel worldwide.”

The channel is also relaunching its online shopping site at www.twcfightshop.com. The new site will be easier to use and feature a much wider range of wrestling and MMA merchandise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Background: TWC Fight!, previously known as The Wrestling Channel, has been broadcasting since March 2004. It airs free of charge on digital satellite channel 427 and does not require a subscription to Sky TV.

Note to editors: The complete list of programming, including first-run times, is as follows. Repeats of all shows air throughout the week.

Wrestling:

· Classic Memphis - Monday @ 7pm
· TNA Xplosion – Monday @ 9pm
· GAEA – Monday @ 11pm

Well I watched the first episode and enjoyed it a lot, they showed a lot of good fights but Im not too keen on Dave and Andy as presenters. Dave's quite funny when he gets excited but Andy looks awkward, hopefully they'll get better as the series goes on.

Some of the fights they showed were:

Anderson Silva v Jorge Rivera
Mike Bisping v Mark Epstein II
Paul Daley v Xavier Foupa Pokem
Melvin Manhoef v Cyborg Santos
Edson Drago v Tengiz Tedoradze (sp)

Not bad for an hours program on free tv!!!
