This was my first MMA event and I had an excellent night
The first few fights were all pretty exciting, they were all first round submissions except for the Reid/Prof X fight which got stopped early cos Reid got thumbed in the eye so they decided to let the judges score the first round and a half. Never seen that done before but Prof. X was clearly winning so it was a fair result. It was a shame about Ross Mason losing too, just before he got heel hooked he did a sort of axe stomp onto Laudins head which I thought was gonna end the fight but fairplay to Laudin for pulling it out.
By the time the PPV started at about 8pm the arena was getting really full and there was a wicked atmosphere. Jean Silva and Danillo Cherman was one of the best fights of the night imo, although Jean wasnt as explosive as he has been in the past but he did get a NASTY armbar on Cherman in the 2nd round which actually broke Cherman's arm but he carried on fighting anyway and eventually got the decision!
The Daley/Azeredo fight was good too, Daley was clearly winning the stand up so Azeredo kept taking him down. Quite a few unfair stand ups during this fight too. It was a close fight all the way through but I think Azeredo did just enough to win.
Sinosic/Epstein went how I thought it would, Mark was rocking Elvis with some heavy shots early on but Elvis got the takedown and armbar fairly quickly.
I was really excited to see Shaolin fight live, he absolutely took apart Nakamura. Shaolin got a bodylock on him from behind straight away and took him down immediately and after a minute managed to get him in a really tight kimura (like the one he subbed Mohammed with) and the ref stopped it. At first everyone was booing, like in the Mir/Sylvia fight, cos they didnt know what had happened but when they showed the slow-mo replay on the screens you could see Nakamura's elbow and muscle pop out of place. Much respect to Nakamura tho, he still wanted to fight lol!
The crowd was absolutely live for the Galesic/Weir fight, Zelg probably got the best reception of the night when he came out, the place was going mad! It turned out to be total domination on Zelg's part, Mark just didnt have an answer for him. Zelg dropped him with a quick flurry about 30 secs in and then just got straight into mount and just KO'd Mark with some brutal gnp! Zelg's gonna go far I think, this was his first big test and he walked through it with no problem.
Rob Broughton really impressed me in his fight with Butterbean, he looks in better condition each fight and he did exactly what he needed to do to win. He kept hitting Butterbean with quick shots while moving quickly so he wouldnt get hit himself. Rob got a couple of takedowns in the first and pounded Butterbean pretty badly but Butterbean managed to almost reverse him and get back to his feet. In the second, Rob did exactly the same and got the takedown and kept hammering Butterbean until he tapped about halfway through the round.
It was a wicked night all in all, I also got to meet both Luiz Azeredo and Vitor Ribeiro in the foyer after the event. They were both really cool and I managed to get my picture taken with them.
The next event is in February and the already have a few fights confirmed...Tengiz Tedoradze v Rob Broughton, Iminari v Olivier (featherweight title) and Mark Kerr v Mustapha Al-Turk. It also had Wes Sims, Mark Epstein and Mark Weir on the line up but didnt have opponents for them.
(wow just read this back, sorry for the essay!
