The Guardian newspaper reported on 28 October 2005 that open-air swimming disciplines will be added to the Beijing and London Olympic schedules. The paper also reported that women's boxing may be added to London; the IOC confirmed that women's boxing would not be included in Beijing because they "did not feel it merited inclusion in 2008".

Plus if they already are have Boxing, Judo and Wrestling at 2012, why wouldn't they have MMA? I think that maybe if someone brings this up to the Olympics board or whoever adds new sports to the schedule of sports.
But, some of the world doesnt agree with how "brutal" MMA is some its contraversial issue...

MMA isn't classy enough, I don't think. A lot of fighters are still going in there all angry and mad and looking at each other like they're insane and are going to kill each other. The olympic games aren't interested in that sort of behavior. Some day, perhaps, when there are more athletes involved in MMA.
But who knows, they might always say that it's too brutal. Though I would much rather get punched in the face and get my forehead elbowed open then go head first down an ice slope or take a spill while skiing however many miles and hour downhill.

its a decent question... i dont think so though... like others said there are already so many other comparable forms of combat... i wouldnt be too interested in them fighting for their "countries" i look at the fighter, not where their from, so it wouldnt mean too much to me personally

MMA, I doubt it. Boxing requires head gear, and I just don't know how head gear would useful with 4ounce gloves.. plus chokes with head gear on would be silly.
Now BJJ/Submission Combat ADCC style i could image would be much more acceptable..

Who really cares about having their sport included in the Olympics?
What affirmation or validation would it provide? Sure it would be a little more publicity, but so what. Having MMA along such events like synchronized swimming, ice dancing, ball room dance, biatholon... who cares?
Hell, rugby hasn't been in the olympics since 1924 and it has a single governing body (IRB) that spans more than 100 countries to standardize the game.
The incredibly ridiculous sport of Nascar Pit Crew whatever the heck would probably have a better chance at getting into the olympics than MMA.

I do not see it happening, this are about tradition more than popularity many times. I honestly do not know a single person who does alot of sports in the olympics but others say like paintball, I know tons and tons.

No Muay Thai is not. If there was ever another full contact sport let into the Olympics it would be K-1 style kickboxing. Although we all know it would basically just be a 90% sweep for the netherlands.

If MMA was in the olympics.( possibilty)?
Would that make this a credible sport if it was introduced in the olympics? I listened to Bas address this issue on his thoughts, and this could be a possibility. Has anyone heard anything on this topic? I would be more than excited to see this take place.

In order for it to be accepted by the Olympic committee, it would have to be watered down. Then all the MMA we consider normal now, would then become barbaric to the ones who accepted the watered down version.

Just look at Olympic style boxing and compare it the way the pros do it. MMA would end up the same way.

I agree I think it would be the begining of the end of the sport.

Even if it was a toned down version do you feel it would bring in new fans to help the cause? I know that all of us want it to be excepted, and honored like a legit sport.
And if it was in the olympics there is no way it would end
what has become the fastest growing sport in the world.
Everywhere I go someone asks me If I seen the last event, and I find myself standing there for a long period of time discussing mma.( Has alot to do with the ufc hat) Noone asks me about the cowboys when I wear that hat.

look at it this way, aside from die hard boxing fans, who remembers or pays any attention to Olympic boxing? In many cases the medal winners in boxing go on to acccomplish nothing in the pros. MMA on the other hand has already been watered down once before to satisfy public outcry and political BS. So i don't see serious fans looking forward to even more rules and other changes to satisfy Olympic officials. i almost envision the old RINGS rules combined with the old Pancrase open hand rule. i really would'nt want to see that and i don't know how many fighters would be interested in doing that. The Olympics are good, but to be a credible sport you don't need to be part of it.

MMA in the Olympics!
What do you think of mma ever being an olympic event? It's already a global phenomenon, (probably more so than a couple of choice olympics sports...but with more viewership), can you imagine how awesome it would be to have mma olympic competition??
What are some challenges? What are some benefits? What's the best way to get something like this started?

I think it would be an excellent idea myself but the conservative politians will keep it out of the competitions if they can. It being an international commitee though, there may not be alot they could do about it. I see it eventually becoming an olympic event but I would not count on it anytime soon.....
