Maybe they could have MMA as a demonstration sport. That way, maybe it could become (at the least) a recognized sport, if not an actual event. That could get the foot into the door, so to speak. Sumo, Wushu, and Karate are, at the least, recognized as sports by the IOC. I was surprised to see Budo had once been demonstrated at an Olympic event in 1964. Or, Savate in 1924.

That's how TKD was in 1992, Seoul Korea hosted the olympics, so the olympic committee had no choice but to recognize it as a spectator sport.
Now it's a part of the regular olympics due to the popularity of it.
MMA? hard to say. it'd depend on a strong regulation body. TKD has the World Tae Kwon Do Federation that regulates heavily Olympic TKD worldwide.
Way too early to tell considering right now you have the war of the Organizations going on and no solidarity about MMA with regards to rules, etc.
