Default Frank Trigg vs Robbie Lawler

MMA WEEKLY - Your #1 Source for Daily MMA News, Interviews, Multimedia, and More

The Honolulu Advertiser is reporting that ICON Middleweight Champion Frank Trigg will make the first defense of his belt against Miletich fighter Robbie Lawler. The fight is scheduled to be the main event of the March 31 ICON Sport: Epic fight card at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Trigg won the belt by defeating Jason “Mayhem” Miller last December. It was Trigg’s return bout following a brief retirement. Fighting at middleweight since his re-emergence, Trigg has quickly established himself in the division, first with the win over Miller, and more recently at the Pride show in Las Vegas with a win over Kazuo Misaki, who was the #4 ranked middleweight on MMAWeekly.com at the time.

Lawler is a former ICON middleweight champion that recently improved winning five of his last six bouts with a win over Eduardo Pamplona in an International Fight League super fight in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hawaiian favorites Miller and Renato “Charuto” Verissimo were also announced as part of the card. Although they are both middleweights, they are not currently expected to fight each other.

Should be a pretty solid fight. Trigg will be a strong favorite though.

I think this is going to be a good fight but I expect Trigg to take it. Miller pretty much had his way with Lawler when they fought and I dont expect him to give Trigg much trouble either. If youve seen any of Lawler's fights, then you pretty much know what his gameplan will be. Come in aggressive, throw punches, move forward, throw punches. Wash and repeat. If Trigg takes this to the ground or uses good footwork, I think he will pull out an early victory.

Yeah I think Trigg'll take this one, although I think it'll be a good fight. I'd like to see Robbie back at WW, he seemed to be far more explosive there. Does he find it too hard to cut to 170lbs now or does he feel he's better suited to 185?

I like Lawler and Diaz. They both have lost fights and regardless, they put on a great show. Yes, I am aware of the Gomi fight. Diaz's punches looked crisp. Daddy like.
