Default Post workout or training supplement?

Anyone else use post training or recovery supps? I use Biotest Surge and have had great success with it.

Surge is nothing special - it's essentially food - protein and carbs. You can save a lot of money buying protein and dextrose and/or maltodextrin and making a shake with it. Protein, dextrose and some glutamine is enough and more food within an hour of training of course. These will fight cortisol and replenish glycogen and repair muscle, just like Surge. The important thing is to consume plenty of quality protein and carbs immediately after training and again within and hour...and again within 2 hours.

Optimum Nutrition's proteins have been my choice for years, but there are dozens of quality proteins.
www.supplementdirect.com carries dextrose and malto - CHEAP.

Side note - biotest I believe has discontinued surge - perhaps there was something else in it not declared on the label.

i usually just down about 20grams of whey protein, Designer Protein is my choice. i also usually eat a small meal along with it. of course small for me is 2 bagels, eggs, huge glass of OJ, milk, home fries. i eat like a horse and its working. i have gone from 180 to over 200lbs in about 2 months and its all lean mass. my midsection has actually become more defined and my pants fit more loosely. i have lifted weights for over 13 years and i had never gotten results until i started stuffing myself like a Thanksgiving turkey everyday. of course i eat clean, no junk food except on Friday.

Actually, Surge has not been discontinued. Biotest simply decided to cut out the middle man and only sell their products themselves. This brought the price down by about $5. Anyway, Surge like most supps, is engineered food. Its ingredients and their ratios have been specifically formulated to assist with recovery. I have tried to make my own post workout/recovery drink using many recipes, but none have tasted as good or shown results like I've had with Surge. I'm not saying its the only one that works, its just the one I have found that helps with muscle soreness and recovery time, is easy to mix, and taste great to me. I take Glutamine right after I lift, before I leave the gym. Then in 1-2 hours I take 20 g Whey protein with Glutamine in it.

Whey protien digests fast. So, it goes to your muscle quickly. Soy protien digests slow. So, when you take it, it will be a feel hours before it gets into your system.

soy isnt that slow. Milk Protein such as Micellar Casein digests slow (great for b4 bed and meal replacements). The only benefit i feel soy has is that it is the only complete protein that is not an animal source, so if your a vegan, you have a protein supplement you can use. And I see a lot of just 20 grams of whey postworkout. Honestly, that wont do much the very least 50 right as your done witrh some carbs and then when you get home eat a big meal full of protein and carbs.

edit: its also important to keep fat to a minimum @ this time, it will just slow digestion.
