Default Question about Creatine

I've been thinking about starting to take it but I have a grappling tourny in November. I was wondering how much weight it would generally add. I'm 131 lbs. right now but I want to stay under 139.9 lbs. Would it be ok to start taking it now or would it add too much weight? I also take Whey Protine and Glutamine. Thanks.

Awsome, thanks guys. I started taking the creatine today. I got "Precision Tri-creatine complex". It's ingredients are Micronized Creatine Monohydrate, Tri-creatine Malate, Creatine Ethyl Ester, D-Pinitol, Soduim Phosphate, Potassium Phosphate and Bioperine. Is that better than just a normal creatine, worse? Also it says to take 1tsp once-twice a day. Should I take it twice and if so how far apart? Thanks again.

I take it only after a work-out to help with muscle growth. Of course, Creatine Esther is ideal over monohydrate because it absorbs better and you don't have to load it...and you're not supposed to retain water with it either.

Typically, with Creatine Monohydrate, you have to "load it;" the first few days you take it...to get it built up in your system. By this I mean taking it five to six times a day for the first five days or so. Creatine Esther absorbs and is used so much better that you don't have to load it.

creatine works by allowing you muscles to perform more work before fatigue sets in. it basically increases the amount of ATP in you cells which muscles use for the energy used in weightlifting. ideally you want to take it like an hour before a workout to get the most benefit from it. older forms of Creatine are notorious for causing bloating but newer forms have no water gain related problems. With Creatine Monohydrate it was'nt unusual to see a 5-7lb. weight gain solely from water. Creatine Ethyl Ester does not have that side effect.
as for cutting weight, if your grappling tournament is day long event you should'nt look to cut weight. you'll find it difficuly enough to stay hydrated if you have mulitple matches back to back.

Just another quick question......it says to take 1 tsp at a time, does it make any difference if you take more at one time?

it wont do you any good to take more than 5 grams at a time. Anything more will get converted to waste

I've heard creatine makes you lose coordination......Anyone ever heard that before ?

They say it is good for things like FOOTBALL, Probably at LB or Lineman position or somthing like that since just being big helps but if you need good coordination it can be kinda a bad thing.

Plus like I saw others say it only makes you hold water in your muscles so I guess it makes them last a little longer before they weaken but it doesn't give you more muscle so you are only making your self HEAVYER but not with muscle weight..............From what I know I don't really see where it is worth it outside of getting a certain look.

Plus if you get off of it you will just pee it all out from the stuff I've read so it is pretty easy to lose.

Never heard that in my life and I can say from my experiences with creatine is that that statement is entirely bogus.

Have you ever taken creatine?
It certainly does more than just "hold water in your muscles". Yes, when you're on creatine more water becomes stored within your muscles, but you certainly become stronger and/or faster (depending on how your train). So I wouldn't say it's only cosmetic as you seem to be stating.

This is basically true. Once you stop taking creatine for an extended amount of time the cosmetic effects will certainly go away, but if you do it properly I find the strength gains will stay.

One of the things I like about creatine is that I get bigger while I'm on it, to the extent that friends comment on how I'm looking stronger, but when I get OFF it, I lose a bit of water weight that came along with it and I end up looking more cut than I was previously. It's like unwrapping a christmas present. ;-)

Well, The guy I read a lot of that on wasn't really talking bad about it he did say it had a little bit of a different effect on different people as far as adding strength and the coordination loss part. But it is good for adding size but its not all permanent size like you said you get off of it after taking it for a while and you get more cut...........There for in order to keep your Creatine size you must keep taking creatine and drinking lots of water*, *But that's good anyway LoL.

But he did say like I posted it was good for some things like Football and other stuff can't remember it all just that it wasn't necessarily good for all things and it may hurt more then help in some cases.

Anyway for what I am trying to do it didn't seem to be of much use to me, I'm not really caring about the cut look so much or flat out just adding size. I just want to build more muscle and burn off fat.

O yah and no I never have taken it that was all just stuff I've heard about it from looking at different things, I myself though haven't taken it I use "Whey Protein" from what I know Whey has a lot of the same +'s as Creatine without the holding water part, Help with memory, Energy, Muscle Loss "As it has things in it to stop the forming of muscle killing hormones, Muscle building, And it is also suppose to help burn fat as well.

So Whey seems to be better for me at this point

Well, technically, since creatine will make you stronger, you will infact gain more muscle and the more muscle mass you have the more calories you'll burn in a day just being alive. Therefore in the long run you will build more muscle and burn off fat, but....

if your diet isn't that great and you're not getting enough protein and the choice is between whey or creatine I'd certainly suggest purchasing the whey.

Creatine has been proven to be a working supplement. newer versions of Creatine like Creatine Ethyl Ester have done away with the previously associated water gain. there is essentailly no bad news about creatine other than no one really knows how it will effect people later on down the road. so far though everything looks good. i have never heard the loss of coordination arguement before. my guess is that someone used creatine and gained significant size and strength but forgot to continue training in the technical and tactical aspect of their sport. ie. Quarterback spending too much time on the weights and not enough time spent on drilling. anyone else ever try to do something like throw a baseball after lifting weights hard? let me tell you that you lose all sorts of accuracy until your muscles settle down.

I'm trying to find one that tastes good. The one I bought has kind of a peppery/metallic aftertaste to it. Anyone recommend a certain brand?
