Default Slow digesting proteins

Hey. Other than Sitnspin's Cottage Cheese, what foods are slow digesting proteins?

pretty much any protein that comes from a source other than whey, such as milk, eggs or animals. whey gets the most hype since its easily and quickly digested, this fact makes it great for a post workout shake. however milk, egg and animal protein is just as good but it takes longer to digest and feed the muscles. this is good as well since the slow digestion allows your muscles a steady supply of protein for when you can't eat or are sleeping. you can also buy protein powders that are a blend of Whey, Milk, Egg and Soy protein.

no, its the exact opposite, the whey protein shake would be digested very quickly and all the protein would be long gone before you woke the next morning. that where milk and egg protein can be used. its slower digesting and therefore does'nt enter the bloodstream as quickly. your body can only process so much protein at one time, right after a hard workout you can process and use more, the muscles are like sponges for protein and whey gets there the quickest after a workout. before bed you will want to drink a shake with minimal carbs that has about 40 grams of protein from milk, eggs and soy. it should also be noted that protein, unlike carbs does not convert to stored fat, so you can lay that worry to rest.

Calcium Caseinate is the slow digesting milk based protein.
Whey is not nearly as fast as we have been led to believe. Clinical studies show that Soy is about equal to whey in most ways, old-schoolers are still afraid on the phytoestrogens in soy, despite the fact that you would have to consume hundreds of pounds on a short time frame for the plant steroid to have any impact in the human body.
The fastest abosrbed protein is PeptoPro, by DSM. It's a casein hydrolysate that is basically "pre-digested" to the di and tri peptide level, so it doesn't have to be digested to be absorbed. It's also hypoallergenic!

You can slow down the absorbtion of most proteins by simply adding some fat to the meal/shake.

Keep in mind Whey Isolate (90-98% pro) is the more pure form of Whey, Whey Concentrate (70-85% pro) and usually contain lactose and fat.

If you are looking for night time protein, try turkey breast. Lean protein that will digest slowly and the tryptophan may help you to sleep better too.
