Glutamine doesn't do much for your joints -- it's more about overall fatigue. I would recommend glucosamine. It's proven effective for a lot of people. It often comes mixed with chondroitin, which isn't a problem, but I don't think the studies have been as conclusive. I've heard a number of people say you shouldn't pay extra for the chondroitin when we don't even know yet if it's making a difference.

Try a glucosomine and chondroitin supplement like Osteo Bi-flex to help keep your knees lubricated and helps prevent joint pain. Losing weight will be the main thing that cuts down on your knee pain though. Make sure you don't over exert yourself or try doing the eliptical instead of running, or even better try swimming for cardio.
