Yeah I would buy that phylosophy for a dollar. I was just pokin at ya. A lot of 40 and 45 owners like to toot their own horn..ya know like "mine is bigger" "bigger is better". They act like if you shootem with a 9 they will stand their and take it, then all nonchelant pull their big 40 and shoot back.
One more thing I do like about a 9 is less recoil, you can squeeze off 3 rounds in 2 seconds.

Yeah, I have to give the 9mm props when it comes to knocking off as many rounds as you can.. there are pros an cons to both types of sidearm really

I'd go w/ the 9mm. Easy to mantain, easy to shoot, and durable as hell. It's rare to see a 9mm jam or misfire. And a 9mm will stop a meth head if you shoot him in the right spot.

Sorry, can't edit ny posts on my pgone. But. As LaB said, the AR15 is awesome if you're looking for a semi auto rifle. They collect a lot of carbon on the bolt and reciever because they're gas powered, but as long as you mantain clean up after firing it's all good. If it gets dirty it's gonna jam up like a mofo.

Thats so true. I spent many hours cleaning the bolt of one of those things. They are unbelievably accurate though. If you have descent eye sight, they have an effective range for an individual person as a target out to 550 -600 yards / meters. I dont even think they have to get dirty to jam though....I bet if you breathed hard on it they would jam up, haha. Wonderful weapons though, thats for sure.

I prefer the .40
I bought myself a cheap S&W .40 Sigma. Yeah it's a cheap and simple gun, but I can shoot 2 inch groups at 15 yards. It may be a p.o.s for some, but it's a good gun for me. Also fits my hand perfectly. Not bad for a sub $300 semi-auto pistol.
My advice would be to get down to the range and shoot the guns you are thinking about getting. The only way to find the gun for you, is to fire them.

Two in the chest one in the head. Look, is he still a threat, repeat, look, and repeat. We are only allowed the hollow points. The ball ammo with go straight through.
Did not realize a lot of 26s ( Law enforcement) guys on here. A lot of Type A personalities then.

I would lean to the .40 no matter what "make" you purchase, for the "stopping power" reasons mentioned here. Better penetration with greater retained effectiveness thru automobile glass is another. The F.B.I had one or two big shootouts where the weaknesses of the 9mm. were glaringly exposed, with fatal results IIRC. The stopping power on a heavily clothed individual, i.e. heavy leather or winter jackets was insufficient, and there was a problem with 9mm hollowpoints clogging with the cloth/material because of the small hollowpoint opening and the subsequent failure of the round to expand. There was also a problem with stopping power after penetrating auto glass. After those problems in 1-2 major events involving the F.B.I. is when the big move to switch to .40 cals started in earnest for U.S.A. Law Enforcement.
10mm. looked for a bit to be the wave, but they were too recoil heavy and had large grips, and were also pretty heavy, all factors in making them much harder for smaller male and most female officers to handle and shoot well. They also wore out pretty quickly because the chamber pressures of the 10mm are pretty high leading to much earlier breakdowns than with 9mm and 40 cal. pistols. The 40. was an evolution that seemed to find a good balance between effectiveness, manageability, overall size/weight, durability, and magazine capacity.
Perhaps some more directly involved in law enforcement/gun collecting can touch up the rough edges of my post. I am working from memory of several articles that I read many years ago.

If you're an armored car driver, i'd go for the heavier load in the .40 caliber for stopping power and potential robbers. Dangerous job armored car work.
I have a sig P228 I carry (9mm), because I don't work patrol anymore. It's a great compact weapon, shoots well, and still has the high capacity mag of 13.
Our patrol guys have the 229 .45s. Also a very good gun.
I want an HK pistol of any type, but they're too damned expensive.

Speaking of high capacity mags, I kept all my magazines from when I got out of the Army. I have three 15 round 9mm mags for a beretta and thre or four for the sig 229 / m11. All hold 15 rounds.

I love it. Nothing better than the feeling of knowing that if you do have to go out, you can go out with shooting a couple of hundred rounds first

Two words...Desert Eagle. I had the opportunity to fire a DE .50 caliber pistol while on tour in New Hampshire. Talk about loud and powerful!! I got brass-faced though, cut a perfectly round hole in my forhead, the exact shape of the bottom of the round I have a video of it happening, I'll post it here when I get a chance!

Bullet Tooth Tony: So, you are obviously the big dick. The men on the side of ya are your balls. There are two types of balls. There are big brave balls, and there are little mincey ****** balls.
Vinny: These are your last words, so make them a prayer.
Bullet Tooth Tony: Now, dicks have drive and clarity of vision, but they are not clever. They smell ***** and they want a piece of the action. And you thought you smelled some good old *****, and have brought your two small mincey ****** balls along for a good old time. But you've got your parties mangled up. There's no ***** here, just a dose that'll make you wish you were born a woman. Like a prick, you are having second thoughts. You are shrinking, and your two little balls are shrinking with you. And the fact that you've got "Replica" written down the side of your gun...
[Zoom in on the side of Sol's gun, which indeed has "REPLICA" etched on the side; zoom out, as they sneak peeks at the sides of their guns]
Bullet Tooth Tony: And the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point five O"...
[Withdraws his gun and puts it on the table]
Bullet Tooth Tony: Written down the side of mine...
[They look, zoom in on the side of his gun, which indeed has "DESERT EAGLE .50" etched on the side]
Bullet Tooth Tony: Should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now... **** off!

I loved my glock which was a 9mm but I was mostly using it just for recreational shooting so the cheaper rounds were nice. If there is a high likelyhood that you will be relying on it in a life or death situation then go .40 or .45 cal. I had a .45 kimber ultra carry that I loved and I've shot the kimber tactical and that shot nicely but I wouldn't recommend it if you are going to shoot often.(disassembly is a b****)
