I guess the fact the dude doesn't have both legs and has overcome that fact means nothing to these people. That he most likely has to work harder to take advantage of the mechanical advantage seems loss on them as well.
I could see it if he seemed to simply be dominating the races but it sounds like the best he has done at a meet is second place, which didn't have any of the well known competitors in it.
