James "THE PRODIGY" Blair! Here is a kid that is worthy of a nickname like "Prodigy" IMO. That is one dynamite kid. If he stays with MMA and BJJ, then that kid will have a brilliant future. That video was VERY impressive.

It would be humbling and beneficial to take lessons from him. Crazy talent.

WOW, that kid is sick. I love how he just dropped into Turtle then took the knee bar. I've never seen MMA that young either. Very cool.

I'd give him my lunch money--now. I hope he has a good parent/coach that will teach him humility and that his ability comes with responsibility. Very Spiderman.

I think so as well. My nephew is starting Karate lessons. I am trying really hard to get my brother to stop that and put my nephew into an MMA class. I respect Karate, but I saw that video and was excited. My nephew is 12. He is at the right age to start learning MMA, IMO. He is alread good at gymnastics and wrestling, and wants to compete at the high school level for both when he is older. I sent that link to my brother in the hope that he will see what I see in MMA. As it is, my brother is not a fan of fighting sports.

He's a beast!!!! I could beat him...LOL. JK
And subgenius your nephew seems like he could be good at MMA, if he already does wrestling and Gymnastics. He would have the freakish strength and takedowns. I want to learn Gymnastics moves just for the physical benifits. I already practice a few exercises but i want to learn more and look like this

all muscle and no iron

Red face

Yeah, gymnastics is good for conditioning. Back in high school, in the early 1980's, my best friend was a gymnastics prodigy as they used to say. He was ranked 4th in the nation and was on his way to an olympics. But, he took a bad fall, fractured a vertabrate in his back, and that was the end of his career in gymnastics. He stayed in shape after he healed, but his olympic dream died. His parents sued the gym because they pushed him and pushed him, and as it turned out they did not take full safety precautions. It was sad, at the time he had no other goal in life.

He was a short, small guy at 5'5" and between 140 and 145 lbs -- almost no body fat and tons of powerfully lean muscles. His body was similar to Bruce Lee but with more upper body development. His latissimus dorsi were huge -- a real V-shaped body. In street fights, he never lost. He was a monster even after the back injury. He started training martial arts for fun. Most of his fights would end with a chin-lock, a front-face lock, or the RNC (even though we never learned that in MA classes, and it was before BJJ).

He was the guy that got me watching the early UFC events. When he saw Royce Gracie winning fights in similar fashion to how he fought, my friend would go balistic with excitement. Partly because Royce would choke people out and submitt them, but also because my pal thought that he could break the holds. I doubted him, but he was stronger than me. I'm 5'10" and weigh on average around 185 to 195 lbs.

He used to have this chin-digging move that he would use against me when we fought for real. (Yes, real fighting.) I tried like hell to choke him out, but he would tuck his chin and then do this motion with it against my forearm that really hurt like hell. I was trying to choke, and so partly it was my own pressure that caused it to hurt. At the time, I was not skilled in any MMA or submissions or whatever. A professional could have done better, I'm sure. I have always wondered why MMA fighters never use the chin to repell a choke...

Anyways, sorry for the long story.

I guess, the short version was that I agree that gymnastics is a way to get the body to peak condition and power.
