Death of a great man
He was my best friend's father and impacted the way we read about sports greatly. One day I picked up the phone at his home, and Chris Mortensen said, "Is Van there." I didn't know who it was until later. He would sit at a bar to watch a game--the less expensive the better--and drink Miller Lites with anybody. No one would ever know that he would be having dinner with Gruden that night. He was an amazing, talented, and humble man. I'll be going to the funeral today.
