any car stereo people here?
hey guys i am driving my "race car" right now. my daily driver needs a new motor, so it's gonna be a while
my race car has no interior, and no wires to hook up a car stereo, but i NEED music.
i have an extra speaker in my garage i can put in the car and i have a mp3 player (not ipod).
is there anyway i can cut some headphones and splice in some speaker wire to run directly to the speaker?
i really don't want to buy little speakers with headphone jacks on them.
thanks in advance guys

Its pretty stright forward most of the time you have a Red wire and a Black wire or one that is solid and one with a line running down it.
Just cut the HP wire and connect the red to red and black to black.
If it is using solid and striped then I think red would be the striped wire and black would be the solid so if you have both, One on the speaker end and another type on the HP end I think thats how they need to be.
If there is a 3rd wire on the speaker end it is probably just a ground and you might not need it all I doubt you would for whatit sounds like you are trying.
But without an amp the speaker may be very low.
If you could take pics of what you have to work with and explaine what you are trying to do it may be a bit easier to see what you need to do.

well i know how to do it, but i guess what i want to know is will it work
i don't want to do the work then have it be really quiet
i was a little worried about the blowing or something like that.
the mp3 player has pretty good volume on it. if you have "ear bud" head phones plugged in and turn it up all the way you can hear it from 10 ft.
but my car is really loud, it's hard to hear someone talking to you from 2ft away.
but all i gotta do is connect it then?

yeah an MP3 won't have enough output to blow the speaker......Just try to tape the wire connections good so you don't get pops.
It should be fine I don't see why it wouldn't work......Its pretty much just swapping the HP speakers for bigger ones, Bigger ones just need more power to do what they do thats why you need the amp but it should work without the amp.
The fact that an MP3 player can control volume means it has some form of amp inside it.

yeah i'm gonna solder and put heat shrink tubing over it.
i do all kinds of wiring on cars and stereos, but for some reason i didn't think it would work.
didn't want to waste 15mins of work
thanks
hopefully i'll have music in my car by the end of the day.
