NFL Draft
It's finally here. I tried going last year but it was a mess. Radio City is too small for this event. I got there with some friends around 7am and all the seats were already taken...something I found out at around 10:30am...so then we finally decided to spend the draft at the ESPN Zone which was good in its own way.
So who do you want on your team? (To those dedicated NFL fans of FF) I would love for the Jets to draft a tall WR somewhere in the draft...this draft is full of WR talent. For the first round I'd like to see an impact CB or TE...Revis(CB) was a Kiper pick for the Jets a while back, but it seems that he will be taken before the 25th pick. Olsen (TE) appears that he may slide to 25...but all this speculation is meaningless...you never know what will happen in the draft (I.E. Texans passing on Bush=dumbest franchise ever)

The Raiders, who I dislike, have not even spoken to Jamarcus Russell. While I'm not saying he's a no brainer for #1, it is weird as hell for a projected #1 to have not even been contacted by the team with the #1 pick. The Raiders have spoken to Brady Quinn and Calvin Johnson.
Personally, I think they are nuts if they pick Quinn over Russell. But thats just me.
As a G-Men fan, I'm hoping for OT Joe Staley of Central Michigan at #20. Very raw, having only played a couple of years at OT. Could develop into a superstar IMO.

I would love to see the Eagles get either Brandon Meriweather or Reggie Nelson. However, I wouldn't doubt if both of them were gone before the 26th pick.

The thing is that Russell has footwork issues and gets a lot of heat for it...He has a cannon for an arm, that's no question...the guy can throw 65 yards on kid knees...seriously...If the Raiders think they can transform him into a franchise QB then they will pick him. Pretty much every ESPN reporter predicts that Russell will be number one even though Calvin Johnson is the top scouted player.
I'm going to make an argument for Johnson because nobody else does. Most ESPN reporters say take Russell because the team needs a QB to throw the ball before you get a WR. First of all this is no regular WR...this is an anomaly, he has sick receiving skills, is one of a kind and the top scouted player. Also Russell is not going to make the Raiders a winning team alone. They have serious O-Line issues so if Russell is a Raider; look for the clips of him on his back. Russell is a questionable QB in some respects like footwork and weight. Johnson will not make this franchise a winning one either, but at least they will have the next year to find their franchise QB in the draft (they will probably have a top 5 pick) So one argument that is hardly discussed is get the one of a kind WR and wait for your QB for next years Draft or free agency.

They lost serious depth at LB and they need some help on the O-line...that's where they will probably go on the first round. If Timmons (LB) is available the Giants will probably take him because they shown serious interest in him...If the Giants don't go with a LB or O-line in round 1 then the next best bet is CB because that's another area the Giants need depth at. LB, CB, or O-line in the first round is what I predict.

The Jets trade up and get Revis which was a great move and it was a good deal. Theoretically, if you go by worth value of draft picks, the Jets would have had to trade all 6 of their picks and a starter to get in the top 10. The Jets got in the top 14 with trading first picks, giving up a second and fifth while getting a sixth. This was a good deal and now the Jets have a shut down corner and punt returner in Revis...Without this deal both Hall and Revis would very likely be long gone before pick 25...a good deal indeed
Watch for the Broncos to turn some heads this year with that defense of theirs. Two established shut-down corners and a strong front 7 and they just added DE Moss to their squad. They have a great run game and Cutler matured in his final games....definitely a playoff team, probably a playoff team that will go deep in the AFC.
Quinn hasn't been picked yet, how funny is that?

Its nuts that Quinn hasn't been picked yet. It might end up working better for him team-wise though.

Bears got TE Greg Olsen who is an excellent passing TE but a very questionable blocking TE and that's why he fell to number 31...it's funny how Quinn ended up with the Browns all the way at pick 22 because that was his first choice...I hope he ends up as a great QB so I can laugh on how the Dolphins passed on him...we will see...
