Mark Kerr
I admit I don't that much about Pride. I've just seen the more recent events, and I don't know about a lot of the fighters.
But I was watching some older Pride events and wondered whatever happened to Mark Kerr? He seemed to be doing really well in the early events, then disappeared. I checked his stats at sherdog, and he just has continuous losses since Pride 10. Pretty strange after starting off pretty much undefeated. I heard he was addicted to pills or something.....is that why he stopped winning?

He was in the documentry 'Smashing Machine'. In it he was addicted to painkillers. I haven't seen it (not available from amazon uk), but I'm pretty sure thats the cause.

i watched a great video about mark kerr a few weeks ago.
from what i recall, mark was one of the most promising and dominent fighters in the early years of MMA, and was undefeated for much of his career.
his nickname was the smashing machine, and he used the headbutt to great effect in a fight. he trained with bas rutten and ricco rodriguez int he early days to get back in shape.
mark was married to his long time partner who battled alcohal addiction and mark suffered drug abuse. making a pretty poor combination, long nights partying from his wife disrupted marks training pattern, coming down from the drugs also made mark not as invincible as he once seemed, the most crushing loss i recall came by igor volachyan (my russian sucks).
it seems now kerr is resigned to fighting for the paycheck as promoters will bring him in under his name tag.
im going to post a video, im unsure if this is copyright so if it is, feel free to remove it mods.

Thanks alot for the info. Seems like alot of personal problems messed him up. It's too bad, cuz he was one of the best in pride when he started out. It seemed like he could have become a very dominant fighter in mma, there was so much potential, and there were hardly any guys who could beat him.
Up until his loss at the 2000 GP (where he did literally nothing after halfway thru the round) and his loss to Igor Vovchanchyn he was great. It's a pretty big switch from being nearly undefeated, to lose every fight afterwards.
Thanks for the video, I'm watching it now.

I'm not a fan either.
But he had so much potential and was so dominant that he was still pretty impressive. In his prime, he was one of the best around.
His style may not have been always exciting, but he at least finished most of his fights.

This was very sad stuff. Addiction can affect anyone from any walk of life. Steroids and Painkillers is a potent combination. Mark looked MUCH smaller in his "comeback" fight, and I wonder if that is why the other guy could take those knees and keep going. Still, they looked and sounded like they would have put most men on the canvas. I was amazed his opponent survived them.

^^^Yeah, it's shocking to see the transformation he went through, from a dangerous fighter to what he is now. Sad story.
