Liddell fought in PRIDE back in 2003 before his rise in the UFC, I think now he would take Rampage in a rematch. Lots has changed for Liddell in the past 2.5years. I think Liddell along with Babalu would be able to hang with all of the LHW of PRIDE, but Shogun and Wanderlei are still the Top 2 LHW right now.

Babalu is 5-2 in the UFC and has never fought in PRIDE FC. Given his obvious talents and skills and propensity for exciting fights, I have often wondered why he has not appeared in PRIDE FC.
It is interesting, however, that Babalu did fight Fedor Emelianenko at Rings 10th Anniversary back in 2001. Babalu lost to a two-round decision. And, Babalu lost another two-round decision to Dan Henderson at Rings: King of Kings 1999 Final back in February of 2000. I should also note that Babalu lost to Kevin Randleman at UFC 35: Throwdown back in January of 2002.
Henderson, Randleman, and Fedor are each among the top dogs of PRIDE FC. And so, I am not sure we can safely say that Babalu could hang with the top talent of PRIDE FC.
Or, so it might seem...
Babalu beat Mauricio Rua by submission (guillotine choke) at the IFC: Global Domination event in September of 2003. And, Babalu defeated Tsuyoshi Kohsaka and Kiyoshi Tamura (twice) at Rings events, and they have PRIDE FC experience.

Obviously, it´s a bad taste in his mouth from the defeat of their 205 King which is sitting in the back of his throat. Show me some proof, that Dana even offered Pride fighters a chance to fight in the octagon and that Pride didn´t allow them to fight there and then we can talk about this subject. Silva was also supposed to fight Couture if you remember correctly. Couture called him out one night, and Silva walked into the Octagon and they talked about fighting and unifying the belts. The fight never happened since Couture lost the title shortly afterwards. Some people will say Pride never intended to send Silva into the Octagon, but like I said before, these are pure speculations from people who know absolutely nobody in the organization that would pass them such info. Polls, opinions and reflections don´t count.
|
And I completely agree. But in the exact same setiment, when has Pride EVER specifically sent someone to the UFC, something that has happened at least twice from the UFC in the last 3 years? Its assumptions on both parts. But you're really painting White/Zuffa/UFC to be the only guilty party in this. You're asking for proof that Dana offered a Pride champ to come fight. Likewise, show me proof that Pride did the same thing. Neither can be proven. And obviously its a moot point that likely can never be proven.

The fight does look funny, but first of all, Kimo is nothing special. Second, a heel lock always looks funny, no matter who applies it. I just watched the fight again two minutes ago, and the only two incidents in the fight that would suggest a work, is 1. when Minowa was in Kimo´s guard and was trying to throw some shots from top, Kimo wasn´t doing much to guard himself, or grap Minowa´s arms and 2. the heel-lock itself. I watched it in slow motion, and it could or could not have been worked, the foot did seem preety twisted to me, but Kimo´s immediate tap out, would suggest that he wasn´t trying hard enough to get out of it, but take into consideration that a twisted leg, specially the heel, is very vulnerable to pain. If you have ever been in such a situation on the ground, and trust me I have, you would know that it can cause an immediate tap out due to fear of the foot snapping. Kimo just looked stupid the way he tapped. This is no proof for me, I am not the kind of believe polls, I make up my own mind based on hard evidence.
|
Fair enough. Even most Pride stalwarts have serious questions about the credibility of that fight. It was weak to say the least. Kimo basically gave him the leg and begged for a heel hook, somthing pretty suspicious from a BJJ practicioner.

I never said they do nothing wrong, but I am getting sick of people saying the fights are thrown, because of a couple rotten apples here and there, or complaining because a few fighters had no business in the ring, this has happened enough times in the UFC, and sadly this is always coming from UFC fans.
|
Likewise, is it safe to say that UFC fans can get sick of Pride fans shoving their "almighty organization" down their throats, telling UFC fans how much greater their group is? Kinda hypocritical, wouldn't you say. Pride is the more talented organization IMO, but many Pride fans insult UFC fans for even bothering to watch and support such an "infereior promotion". Thats not fair either. I happen to be a fan of UFC more right now for one simple reason. Its much easier for me to see their shows without a few days tape delay and also live as well.
I guess it simply goes both ways and is an argument that can never be solved. Like Ali vs Tyson .

Gotta love those UFC>Pride/Pride>UFC arguments. The never ending pointless debate.

Hey, I´m not the one saying UFC events shouldn´t be watched, infact I got the UFC 60 package on Saturday myself. As far as Pride goes, I get to watch it live over here. hehehehehehe. Infact I think I will do a live Play by Play Sunday morning, that would be like 3 a.m. EST.

There is no question about Babalu´s talent. I would love to see him in Pride.

While I may be asleep (LOL), a play by play in the morning would be great. Thanks SJ!

Somehow, I am not expecting much from PRIDE FC in the US. I hope that it will be good, but I think that it may not hit the ground running. I guess we will all know more when they actually announce the fight card. Total-MMA said that PRIDE FC was coming to America in October or November. It seems like this is all still just a guessing game.

Has that been set in stone? I mean, have they already promised us a Fedor fight? I am having a lot of trouble getting or finding any real confirmations. And, for some reason the PRIDE FC English website is not coming open for me in the past hour or so, which makes it hard to even go look there. Not that they update that website enough anyway...
Of course, I would LOVE to see Fedor fight in the good old US of A. But, we have not even see any fight card listings. For all we know it may be fighters that few of us have ever heard of before. Are they sending the very best of PRIDE FC? Can we get real factual confirmation? That is what I am looking for here. There have been too many rumors, and not enough solid data.

While I am excited by this, I still wonder what they are going to do about the rule differences. The NSAC which sanctions all fights in Vegas abides by the Unified Rules, which disallows all kicks and stomps to the head on a grounded opponent but allows elbows. Is Pride willing to run the event with the exclusion on the kicks? I sure hope so.

Well nothing besides the date is set in stone. They can't really set a fight card or promise any fighters for an event that is four months away ya know? Fedor has said that he wants to fight in the USA though. Sakakibara is going to make it a huge show though. Silva mentioned that he wants to defend his title against Minotoro here as well. Hopefully as things get closer then we'll get some announcements. But all I care about is that it is finally coming to the states. If I weren't lacking the fundage I'd be flying out there for sure regardless of the card.
