I think St Pierre would take it. He's naturally heavier so he'd be bigger than Gomi no matter what weight they fight at. Plus GSP has a good ground game, and the last couple of Gomi's losses that Ive seen (Penn & Aurelio) have been submissions on the ground.

yea good point, this isnt really a fair fight... at what weight would they possibly fight at? GSP is a huge 170 and could manhandle gomi.

Kinda funny how a guy with the name Hughespowerslam automatically says "Gomi"
Considering the pending GPS/hughes fight do you think that may be a bit of bias happening there?
I would have to say GSP wins, based on the size/power differance. I don't think the skill level is so far off that size would not matter like it did in the old UFC days with 170 pounders with a lot of skill beating 400 lb guys who had no clue.

great points.
the GSP/Gomi most likely would not happen, but hopefully they can get Kid Yamamoto and Gomi in the ring at 154lbs.
I was at the Ariake Coliseum for Bushido 9, when Gomi fought Kawajiri. Unbelievable crowd when two fellow countrymen fight.
A fight with Yamamoto certainly would raise Gomi's level of training , since he even admitted he slacked on training in his last fight against Aurelio.

Actually I see Hughes losing. I'm not really a big Hughes fan, I just picked this name because I love that slam he did on Trigg in their second fight. So take your little "bias" theory somewhere else.

Gomi is considered one of the best strikers in the world, however,GSP would dance around him, slip the jab,and then take him down and pummel him.Gomi gives up his back alot when he's in precarious situations. After which GSP would then proceed to RNC him.
In short, this would be a repeat of Penn vs Gomi.

I was reading an article about Hero's on MMAWeekly and apparently Yamamoto is having a break from MMA to concentrate on training his wrestling for the 2008 Olympics.

GSP wins. He naturally walks around at 185. I had a chance to attend one of his mma seminars which was held at the club I attend, and let me tell you that guy is very strong.
He came with one of his training partners - TKO Heavy Weight Champ - and I watched him lift him up quite easily, and this dude had to have been at least 225 - 230lbs.
I would also agree that GSP's ground game is very good, we saw that against BJ Penn, who incidently ruled Gomi on the ground.

Gomi would get massacred, hes lighter than Sherk and St. Pierre is huge for a welterweight. This fight will end the same way as St. Pierre and Sherk no doubt well maybe Gomi would last longer than Sherk did but St. Pierre is the best welterweight in the world, he dominated Hughes until that armbar and will win at UFC 63.

WTF? Someone actually said "Gomi would win".
That's retarded. GSP is a huge welterweight with crazy strength, Gomi is a lightweight. End of discussion.

gomi is a HUGE lw, but GSP is a HUGE WW. Gomi stands no chance against GSP.
