If anything will destroy MMA's chances in becoming mainstream it's continued steroid scandals like this. This isn't a surprise. In a while you'll see Baroni (who was once warned by the UFC regarding steroids), be next. There's obvious obvious abuse in Pride with Steroids. Look at Wanderlei in his UFC Ultimate Brazil days and look at him now and tell me he's not on roids.
Not that the UFC hasn't had its steroid scandals, but now they're sanctioned. So their fighters CANT be on steroids. If they are, they're out.
Simple rule that should become the standard. Test positive you don't fight. Have a title and test positive? You get stripped and suspended 2 years.

my understanding of it is that Pride has to hold true to any suspensions that the NSAC hands out for Vitor and Nastula, meaning those guys can't even fight in Japan. if Pride does let them violate the suspensions it means Pride won't be doing events in Vegas anymore.

i hope you're not serious. steroids add absolutely nothing to the sport when they are being abused. the last 3 fighters caught using all lost the fight they tested positive after. Bonnar, Vitor, Nastula and now possibly Randleman. 4 losing fighters all accused of using illegal substances. you have to assume Coleman could be using as well since he and Randleman are so closely tied, and he lost too.

i believe he was coming back from a very severe shoulder injury. i can understand if he was prescribed steroids to ensure healing but if thats the case he should have informed the NSAC and not taken the fight.

Baroni, Randleman, and Coleman are Hammerhouse. Two out of three have been shown to be using steroids. I hope Coleman is not using, but it is becoming harder to accept that. This is more systematic than what we saw with Bonnar. I may find it hard to believe that Randleman only used roids just that once. And, faking a piss test says that he knew what he was doing. At least Bonnar can claim some level of ignorance. At least he did not fake a piss test. This roid issue is getting sick. It hurts MMA.

this does sort of answer alot fo questions we had about Pride and steroids. Pride admits to not caring but i think that might change when they have 3 fighters testing positive for illegal substances in ONE event. not a great way to introduce yourself to a new market.

Yup, I agree. With MMA gaining popularity, the steriod issues could negatively affect the sport's credibility. Not good.

The now infamous Marc Laimon kicked Phil Baroni out of his gym for steroid useage. There was an article about that on subfighter.com a while back. Also, Baroni once said that he never lifts weights. I think it was like a year ago before one of his fights. Maybe that was a joke, but it made a lot of people say "roids" in reply.

The U.S. is one of only a few countries that steroids are illegal. The only reason they are illegal is the Olympic Committee. The medical teams against them could not find any evidence that they were a danger or caused any damage with use. Like anything the abuse of steroids can cause damage, but Tylenol is more damaging when abused than steroids. Nearly all top level athletes use steroids, they hire experts to help them take them as designed, and cycle off in time to be clean for test! Any athelete from most other countries is buying them in Wal-Mart or Eckards like we buy cold meds.

Excellent point. Roids give a nominal if any advantage at all. In fact in one post in this thread it was pointed out that the last 3 positive tests happened in losing situations for the user. The demonization of any steroid use by the North American media has really over blown things. Not that I'm condoning it but we're all big boys here and realize the potential of healing from injury like Bonnar did.

Guys heads up on gear. Everyones body has limitations, and there is nothing natural that one can do. We all can only get to a certain size, which all depends on our makeup. Once you reach that point you cannot get any bigger without taking steroids.

While this might be true, the "limit" is still quite large with proper neutrition and weight training.

This is true, but it's all BS man, Everyones roiding and it's really lame, take someone like randleman and cut him off and we'll see how much weight he'll lose. And if your not taking roids your popping pro hormone pills. Makes me mad when you have these big guys all steroided up trying to sell people protein powders and stuff. whatever, i'm going to sleep...

Remember, those prohormone pills were just as legal as buying asperin or tylonal in the not too distant past and no one had a problem with people taking them then. The only thing that changed was a signature on a piece of uninformed legislation that made them go from legal OTC suplements one day to illegal banned substances the next.

MMA is not bodybuilding and fighters don't use steroids to get bigger than their genetic potential. they use them because they don't think they can win without them or for some other ego driven reason. the fact is that smart training and hard work is what gets you far in MMA, not how much "gear" you can jam inot your body.
