SeikanJudanski | Didnt they say he was sick against CroCop too? |
Sounds like Silva is coming down with the Rickson Gracie illness...Denial.

That is BS to me....Non-Title fights. Now Diaz has to beat Gomi twice to prove that he's a better fighter? I agree with whoever said it previously, GP events aside....there should be no "Non-Title" fights. Having to beat the champ in order to prove that you are a contender worthy of facing the champ is just flat stupid. Guess Gomi dodged another one, eh? I'm not a Diaz fan....but I'm rooting for him to beat Gomi even more decisively next time out.

just watched this fight on youtube.. Awesome fight! Diaz is just too dangerous to fight stand-up with.

They should just give the winner of the LW Grand Prix this year the LW Belt...

I look forward for this fight in April and this time I hope Gomi plays his cards right and don't exhaust himself to beat Nick....Nick has great stamina....This time I won't bet on this fight cause it is hard to say who is going to win since the belt is on the line and Gomi wants to keep it and Nick wants to take it.
It will be an exciting fight though.

And on this title fight in April?
I see the same result. Gomi doesent have the reach. Diaz will be much of the same in their rematch. If. IF he can adjust to Pride rules though.
Cause on the ground all that insane foot stomping they do? Diaz has to put Gomi down hard and fast to nullify all the extra dirty tactics you can use in Pride.
That will be the test for Nick next time around.

MTKrav911 | I agree. Its almost as if each event is a never ending tournament with nothing on the line really.
I'm actually surprised the Henderson fight was a title fight. Two title for that matter. |
It was a "one title" fight though. Wandy obviously wouldn't have gotten Hendo's WW belt, had he won.

So why wasn't the belt on the line? Is that customary for fighters with belts to not have to defend it?

I'm with you guys I'm sick of gomi not putting his belt on the line. Atleast silva put his on the line this fight. I too think gomi came out like a fireball and tired.

SeikanJudanski | I agree, the fight should have been for the title. I dont think a champion should ever fight without the title being on the line. Whats the purpose of being Champion, if you lose and the title stays with you anyway. That must be one of the dumbest rules Ive ever seen. |
I agree, however I think the Hughes vs Gracie fight may be an exception.

Gygax | SK - Good to hear you agree about the title fights. I've looked all over and have never been able to find out exactly what the Pride Lightweight title weight limit is. Is it the same as the Unified Rules weight of 155/ or is it normally more like 159-160? I've seen a few of Gomi's challengers weigh in around 159, like Aurelio. Any ideas? |
Im not sure, I think its simply "up to 160".

Gomi imo, will not do well against GSP cause all GSP has to do is get him to the ground where Gomi is weak. I think the fight last night Gomi wanted to finish Diaz in the first round and never thought about the other rounds to follow.

gsp has an untested chin and all gomi needs to land is one shot. Gomi only has a punchers chance against gsp.

DirtyChuckRulz! | Gomi would really struggle with GSP. GSP is way to big and string for Gomi. i think NIcks reach is what gave Gomi the most trouble. Factor reach in with GSP's size and strength, not good. |
And if anyone would gas in that fight, it wouldn't be GSP.

Gygax | No offense meant, but this is once again why Gomi's title should have been on the line in the first place. First he loses a non-title to Aurelio, then gets a rematch and wins an uneventful split decision. Now he fights Diaz and gets creamed but doesn't lose the title. people say it was because of the rules. How would a longer first round have helped him. It wouldn't have.
That said, I'm looking forward to April now. I'll still be rooting for Gomi as I just really despise Diaz, but Gomi lost some respect in my eyes last night. I was especially pissed that he asked the ref to check the cut when he was getting peppered with clean shots. Lets hope he shows up in shape this time becuase he gassed way too early.
And this should forever quiet the people wanting to see Gomi go against GSP and such. First BJ Penn obliterates him, now Nick Diaz. |
