Pride 33 fighter salaries are out...
according to mma weekly (taken feb 26, 07):
The question of, "How much do Pride's fighters make when they fight in Japan?" still remains unanswered, but the fighter salaries for this event do provide a great deal of insight into this question.
Given that Pride's Japan-based shows often fill the 35,000-seat Saitama Super Arena, it's likely that the salaries for the USA event were smaller than the salaries for a show in Japan, but it's unlikely that the two sets of numbers would be drastically different from one another.
Just as with UFC fighter salaries, any undisclosed bonuses that Pride also pays its fighters, but does not disclose to the athletic commissions, are not reflected in the figures below.
Though our listings still note which fighters won their fights and which fighters lost, there were no winners' bonuses on this card. In addition, next to each fighter's name is the number of fights that he has had in Pride.
Main Event Fighters
-Wanderlei Silva: $150,000 (28th fight in Pride; lost to Dan Henderson in main event)
-Dan Henderson: $50,000 (18th fight in Pride; defeated Wanderlei Silva in main event)
Main Card Fighters
-Mauricio "Shogun" Rua: $50,000 (13th fight in Pride; defeated Alistair Overeem)
-Takanori Gomi: $20,000 (15th fight in Pride; lost to Nick Diaz)
-Antonio Rogerio Nogueira: $20,000 (10th fight in Pride; lost to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou)
-Nick Diaz: $15,000 (1st fight in Pride; defeated Takanori Gomi)
-Joachim Hansen: $15,000 (6th fight in Pride; defeated Jason Ireland)
-Hayato Sakurai: $10,000 (11th fight in Pride; defeated Mac Danzig)
-Frank Trigg: $10,000 (2nd fight in Pride; defeated Kazuo Misaki)
-Kazuo Misaki: $10,000 (8th fight in Pride; lost to Frank Trigg)
-Sergei Kharitonov: $10,000 (11th fight in Pride; defeated Mike Russow)
-Alistair Overeem: $10,000 (14th fight in Pride; lost to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua)
-Travis Wiuff: $10,000 (1st fight in Pride; lost to James Lee)
-Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou: $10,000 (1st fight in Pride; defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira)
-Mac Danzig: $10,000 (1st fight in Pride; lost to Hayato Sakurai)
-Jason Ireland: $10,000 (1st fight in Pride; lost to Joachim Hansen)
-Mike Russow: $10,000 (1st fight in Pride; lost to Sergei Kharitonov)
-James Lee: $10,000 (1st fight in Pride; defeated Travis Wiuff)

Nick Diaz made $20,000 for defeating Josh Neer on the main card at UFC 62. He made $24,000 at UFC 65 for defeating Gleison Tibau on the undercard of UFC 65. Now he fights Pride Lightweight Champ Takanori Gomi as the 2nd headliner fight, and he makes $15,000. LOL, and Gomi himself only took home $20,000.
Once again, these are only the salaries that are required by the NSAC to be reported. There could be PPV buy takes and money paid by DSE that was not reported. But it is pretty interesting.

i used to break the ufc's balls for how they pay their fighters, but i guess pride aint much better. you have a great point, though, Gygax, this is only what they are forced to reveal.
i have, however, always wondered what they pay in japan.
also, i wonder what the gate bonus is if there is one. i think the article said something to the effect that the japan shows hold way more spectators compared to the u.s. shows. i wonder if this makes a difference.

I think it is better than UFC for lower tier fighters in which UFC only pays 3-5K while Pride stayed @ 10K and up.

Uh, guys, that's because the lower tier fighters usually LOSE in the UFC.
There's a lot 10K winners there. That's the same as 5K to fight, 5K to win in the UFC (unless Pride pays flat rates and no win/loss bonuses).

The lowest tier UFC guys, when they are first breaking in, get $3000 to show, $3000 to win. So the lowest tier definitely do better in Pride than the UFC. But the middle tier and obviously upper tier are doing better. Eastman and Sanchez both were paid $30,000 to be the whipping boys for Rampage and CroCop. that's more than everyone on the Pride card except Silva, Rua, and Henderson. Sorry, there is no justification for paying Takanori Gomi just $20G. Or Nick Diaz just $15G.

I wonder if DSE is like K-1 and pays more in Japan so it will not be taxed?

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happens. Which is why I'm sure Taka got alot more for that appearance. But guys like Diaz and Trigg will not benefit from that.

Gary Shaw (of EliteXC) has said no one should be bound to any organization and should be allowed to fight wherever they want, just like in boxing. We'll see what he has to say now, especially since Diaz just became such a hot property.

then again Gary Shaw also said he would not try to steal fighters away from current contracts but thats what he has already done. I dont trust Gary Shaw very much more than Don King, so maybe I am biased.

I'm with you there. He keeps blowing his horn how he's going to bring the business practices of boxing to MMA, and all I can think is "PLEASE, DON'T!" The Don King of MMA. Scary stuff.

Our gym is really near by to Caesar Gracie's place and a lot of their guys were tight lipped about Nicks Pride $$$. Some said he was getting screwed, others made it off like it was a huge payday. But nobody leaked what he was making.
But, he's been averaging 5-8 g's a fight with The UFC, so I guess, by Nick's standards.
He got a couple g's raise with Pride.
I agree with Aika though, he deserves a lot more money. I really hope the kid gets what he deserves cause he's shown us all a lot of good fights! Both in victory and defeat! I'm really pulling for the kid to have his day in the sun for a change!

While the salaries for the first time fighters was a bit higher than the lower level pay to new people in the UFC, I was really surprised at what Gomi, Overeem, Nog, and Henderson made. I was even surprised at what Wandi made. With how everyone talks about how low the UFC pays compared to what the people in Pride make, Id have expected larger numbers on the parts of people like Gome and Overeem and Nog.
I guess it goes to show that the pay isnt so out of whack when you compare organizations.
