Default Mayweather's Take On The Greatest Heavy-Weight

In the July 2007 issue of Maxim, Floyd Mayweather Jr. was asked who felt was the greatest heavy-weight boxer of all time...........
"Truthfully speaking, I would have to say Larry Holmes." He concedes that Holmes lost to Mike Tyson but notes, "When Tyson beat Larry, Larry had been off for years", and adds dismissively, "The only guys Tyson beat were over the hill or scared of Mike. If they weren't scared, they'd have beat his ass." And as for Muhammed Ali (who actually was TKO'd by Holmes near the end of his legendary career), "They called Ali the Greatest because that's what he called himself."

Larry Holmes was beaten by Michael Spinks twice, who although a good fighter, was a blown up Light Heavyweight! Tyson famously banged Spinks out of there inside a minute! I would like to see Floyds reasons for this. Holmes was a great fighter, but best of all time?

Larry Holmes was one of the all time greats, but his time was after the likes of Foreman, Ali, and Frazier, and before Iron Mike came along. There weren't any real competitors for him to fight. Ali called himself the greatest before everybody else did only because he knew himself before anybody else in boxing did. Without a doubt, Ali was better than any HW in history, followed by probably Tyson.

In my opinion, Tyson is the Greatest HW boxer.

Tyson? Hey this is an open forum. Maybe I'm looking at a style of fighter I like versus consideration of the best fighters, but I can't get past Frazier and Foreman.

I don't agree with Holmes as the best HW of all time, but I do agree with Floyd's opinion of Tyson fighting bums and old men.

Best HW?

Ali himself sparred and taught Holmes a thing or two, and when he saw Holmes training he himself said "Damn! That kid is GOOD"

I think it WAS Spinks who got lucky and robbed Holmes. It didnt happen in the rematch. Holmes spanked him.

Holmes is up there... but as far as Heavies?

I'm thinking Holmes, Ali, and Foreman.

But we all know Pound for Pound that it's Sugar Ray Robinson.
