Johan Finally Traded?
After numerous trade talks with the Yanks ands Sox the Twins threw a curveball and traded Johan Santana to the Mets. The Mets have to sign Santana to an extension to make the deal final. Considered by most the best pitcher in baseball this makes the Mets a heavy favorite to win the NL. But will Johan be enough to help the Mets avoid last years disaster? Personally as an Indians fan i hate this trade. I was hoping the Twins would trade him to the Sox or Yanks because the Tribe own Santana. Theo Epstein and Steinbrenner must be shaking their heads right now because the Mets gave up 4 prospects and none as coveted as Philip Hughes, Joba Chamberlein, Jacoby Ellsbury or Jon Lester, all of whom were rumored to be traded for Johan at some point in time. I'm a huge baseball fan and this really shakes things up!

Let's Go Mets!!
Mets have to replace Glavine's innings somehow. Of course, the Mets still need some relief help to bridge the gap to Wagner and another reliable starter wouldn't hurt.
Johan's thrown a lot of innings over the past few years so that's a mild concern as well.
I'm just shocked the Yankee$ didn't sign him.

I know...seriously. What's up with NY sports?
Mets have to do something and the Yanks have to get past the first round. At least there's the Giants...well, New Jersey anyway.

The last rumor is the Yanks are willing to trade Mussina, Chamberlain, Wang, and Kennedy
for
Beckett for 50 million a year X 10 years + a 100 million dollar signing bonus
The Yankees are planning to ditch their rotation and make Beckett pitch everyday.
Not really, but Im through trying to speculate what the heck the Yanks are gonna do.

You would think with the STACKED roster that the Yanks have that they would be unbeatable.....

No ****.
If you look back at the teams when the Yankees were dominant? They didnt do it with big names. Sure they had one or two big names, but no superstars. They got it done with solid fundamental baseball with players who were good fundamental baseball players. The Brosius', the Knoblauch, the Williams (who I still hold as my fav), etc.
The Yankees are a good team. They'll contend every year. They're just freakin flat right now because IMO they're TOO stacked with talent.
I simply want to see them play good solid fundamental baseball which they have not been doing lately.
That's all I want this season. Not the WS, not the division, etc. Just freakin solid baseball that puts them into a great position to win a WS or division.

Its looking more and more like the Mets are going to blow this deal. If so, Minaya needs to be fired ASAP!

Its complete. Santana is a Met once he finishes his physical.
Quote:
NEW YORK -- Johan Santana and the New York Mets completed contract negotiations Friday, the last major step needed to finalize the team's blockbuster trade with Minnesota.
After the sides were granted an extra two hours to work on a deal, they finished negotiations before the new 7 p.m. EST deadline. The pitcher is scheduled to take a physical, the Mets said.
Said the Mets in a statement Friday evening: "Negotiations have been completed and the player will take a physical."

If they blew this deal they would have gone down in history lol.
even with Johan their rotation is still sketchy IMO'
Projected 5:Santana,Maine,Pedro,Oliver Perez and El Duque
Santana is a given, Maine is still inconsistant. Pedro could jump the shark at any time now. Perez had a good 07 season but is very incosistant. As for El Duque he is in the same boat as Pedro, he could fall off at any time. Their line-up is still top notch so it could be yet another eventful season for the Mets

Leave it to the Twins too shake things up a bit. I don't know about you guys but I'm getting antsy, March 31st seems like it's never going to get here. I need my Indians fix, especially after the heartbreak of last season.
