On ESPN they did an Inside The Lines report about NFL player security. I didnt realize it was such a problem. 30 NFL players last year were victims of violent crimes, from Home Invasion, carjacking, to just straight up armed robbery and assault.
Some NFL players who can afford it have purchased personal protection agents (bodyguards), but professionally licensed private bodyguards are expensive, averaging 2000 to 6000 dollars a week.
Pretty shocking story about how violent some of these acts are. One NFL player and his wife and children were held hostage for 3 days while the home robbers forced him to withdraw thousands of dollars from his accounts before they left. The robbers eventually were captured and the money recovered, but the emotional scars are there for these players.
The NFL has gone out of its way to inservice the players on security matters the last few years. Players are mandated to attend these personal security and awareness seminars quarterly.
Kinda scary stuff.
We're all in the wrong business. 6 g's a week to be a bodyguard for these guys?
