Awesome fight.
GSP completely, completely dominated Hughes, that wasnt even close.

Anyone know about the death in GSP's family before he fought Serra? I heard a little bit about it, but never caught the full story yet. A loss is a loss is a loss. . .but I've been wanting to know what happened.

LoL , if that came from anyone else besides you i might take offense. No need to cry and throw around insults cus your boy got absolutely owned.
I gave Matt his props , but of course you didnt quote that did you ?
I stand by what i said. Hughes looked like an amateur. The only offense he was able to mount were a few border line illegal elbows from the bottom.
Hughes record says it all , he was a great fighter but his time has passed. Get over it.

I don't think hughes is necessarily done, I just think GSP is totally beyond everyone right now.
Hughes is gonna have some return fights and hes going to win. They are going to be boring, GnP without finishing but he'll win. Prob fight some average namers and retire.

I'm not sure if this has been said yet or not. You'll have to forgive me for not reading all 6 pages of posts.
Matt Hughes has been relegated to Rich Franklin's role. Being second best in his weight class. Actually it seems that all MFS guys have taken a secondary position. Hughes, Franklin, Sylvia, and soon Jens after he loses to Urijah. Barring retirement, all will get at least 1 more title shot. Even then, they will likely be the underdog.
Best thing for Hughes to do is step up a weight class and try to get revenge on Anderson Silva for dismantling Franklin. OR he should fight Franklin. What better way for him to go out then with a win or loss to one of his good friends.

I'm being disrespectful by stating the truth ? I said Hughes was a great fighter and no one can deny the most dominant WW of all time and a great champion. But GSP made him look like an amateur in this fight. And i think most will agree with me there.

I can see how that could be taken as an insult. But, BCGuy, I think that what you are saying is that GSP performed so well, and dominated so thoroughly, that he made Matt Hughes look like he was an unskilled amateur. However, I don't think that you actually meant that Hughes had no skills. If I am wrong, then I apologize. But, I do have to agree with you, if I am correct in how I am interpreting your POV.

Yes , exactly .... i went and changed my post from the one you quoted cus it was a little harsh. Sadly Goeth likes to follow me around the forum and chat to try to get me upset. Or at least he did before he took off from FF for so long. Seems nothing has changed though.

GSP was talking about possibly entering the Canadian Olympic Wrestling Trials (just for fun, to test his skills). He's been training with some of the best in the world and it shows.
Best pure wrestler - No
Best MMA wrestling - Yup

Sub is correct though, the chants did change to GSP later in the fight.....
|
The chants were going back and forth throughout the entire fight. One section would start chanting U-S-A and the next section would start G-S-P.
I don't like country vs. country cheering/booing either. I would have preferred hearing "Hughes" or "Farm-boy.." chants.

LOL.
I was trying to think of more than one example for a Hughes chant.
Matt would probably enjoy hearing the "farm-boy" chant
p.s. I'm a Farm Boy (now turned into city adult...)

I don't think it was worth reviving an old thread just to say that...
