Arlovski v O'Brien
just watched this online
the first round was pretty poor. o'brien kept going for the takedown and arlovski did a nice job of sprawling but other than that, bairly threw any strikes and didnt even attempt to take advantage of a few guillotines that o'brien seemed to be gifting him
the second round was more of the same except for this time arlovski got a nice takedown into mount. but then what happened after that was just bizarre. arlovski threw these constant light handed punches side to side, and o'brien was getting hit, but not overly hurt, and then arlovski looked at the ref and he decided to stop the fight. that was one of the softest stoppages ive ever seen
ultimately i liked that o'brien tried to push the fight somewhat but im not sure he quite has the skills yet. and arlovksi showed that he's athletic but mentally is just nowhere near in the right place to be competing at the top level in the UFC

Yeah I agree, AA's shots from the mount didnt look hard at all. It looked like he was just sort of tapping Jake.
Saying that tho, Jake stayed on the ground for a little while after the ref stopped it...maybe he was hurt more than we think? Or he may have just been gutted about his first loss?

arlovski stated post fight he didnt hit him hard because he knew of the spinal injury obrien had
i think thats a classy move when you are in total control like having full mount to be able to show restraint and not uneccesarily end a career.
itd be one thing if they were in a heated exchange, im sure arlovski wouldnt have gave a damn about his spine but in such a clearly advantageous position that you control, yea i applaud him....he doesnt have to live up to a gimmick
same thing as why people bitched about when manny gamburyan cranked the **** out of that (i believe) knee bar and jack that guy's knee up...i disagree that there was anything wrong with it but alot of people howled about it

I think its kind of stupid IMO.
If a guy got cleared to fight he is healed from his injury, no commission is going to allow a guy to fight with a severe spinal injury, so why risk getting reversed and losing and just finish the fight while you can?

Ahhh that makes sense! It also explains why Arlovski wasn't going for the Guillotine, which he had ample oppotunities to apply.
