I haven't seen any bad calls tonight, Houston and Karo are just bad losers.

I think the ref made the right call in the Karo fight but at the same time I think Karo could of survived if it had continued. I was impressed with Maynard though I really thought he would lose.

Alright I have to get this comment out before the fight is over. Lauzon just got removed from a dominant positions due to Florian throwing illegal strikes. This is complete garbage.

I agree. Kenny was intense and relentless again Lauzon. He definitely needs to step to higher competition. I can't see how he wouldn't fight the winner of Sherk vs Penn, unless both of them moved back up to WW.

Disappointed with the outcome of the main event, since I'm not a big Kenny Florian fan (and his nickname blows, so I refuse to refer to him by it). However, I was impressed by Joe when he was in the dominant position - good takedowns by both guys, and good defense at the end of the fight by Joe.

*edit* Also, HOLY ****! I only made it home in time to see the main event after work, and I just now checked the results of the other fights... Has there ever been an event (PPV or otherwise) with that many finishes (and quick ones at that)? I'm glad Hamill's striking is still improving, though I would've liked to see Boetsch become a quick star by pulling out the win (although Hamill's deserves the rebound after the robbing he got against Bisping). And I guess Karo must be pissed now...

How good was the Hamill/Boetsch fight?

Sucks that Lauzon lost... and when the ref stopped it, I don't think that Lauzon was taking hardly any damage it was just stopped cause Florian was in the dominant position for so long. Granted I don't think it should have been stopped quite that early it would have been a tough call to make if I were the ref.

I just got back from the event. Sick! Awesome night of fights! Only 2 decisions for the entire night and those two were no brainers. Lots of finishes.

A couple of thoughts stick out...

Maynard looked like he outweighed Edgar by 30 pounds. The difference was HUGE. Edgar is definitely the more technically sound of the two, but he just couldn't overcome the strength difference, though he nearly did pull off a neat reverse triangle looking thing that would've been sick.

Alves also looked noticeably bigger than Karo and Karo's spare tire looked even more noticeable live.

Got to meet Nick Diaz. Cool guy.

Matt Hamill has a granite chin. He ate a couple of knees that should've at least rocked him, but he never even looked fazed. His standup is still raw, but he's really improving in that area. The rape choke?! Bwahahaha!!!

Tommy Speer's standup is atrocious. If his standup doesn't improve drastically, he's not going to make it.

Josh Neer dominated Din Thomas. Those two guys showed a lot of respect for one another. Neer opened up a big cut under Thomas' eye and the fight was stopped to have the doctor take a look. You could tell both fighters were pumped that the fight wasn't stopped due to this. Thomas is a tough dude. He got his leg buckled early in the fight with a big leg kick and went down, but it didn't seem to affect him during the fight, but afterward he was limping badly. I wouldn't be surprised if he has some damage to that knee. Neer was gassing bad, but finished strong regardless. He admitted after the fight that he didn't feel good, but he didn't know if it was due to altitude, weight cut, or both.

Roman Mitichyan looked horrible. Just plain horrible. Sotiropilous didn't look much better as he had ample opportunity to finish that fight much earlier and failed to capitalize. I don't expect anything out of either of these guys.

Marcus Aurelio looked good. The way he was able to transition seemlessly into that armbar was nice. 16 seconds and it was over.

Alves looked really good against Karo. Did Karo know who he was?! Haha! Karo is a really good fighter, but he has to develop more finishing ability either striking or through submissions. It's hard to survive with some of these guys for 15 minutes and you're not always going to make it long enough to get the decision. You have to be able to finish fights.

Karo and Alexander both complained about the stoppages, but they were done.

Nate Diaz's jiu-jitsu is sick. Pellegrino is a black belt and was completely tooled by that triangle.

Sloppy. Boestch tried to for a takedown and ended up in a bad position. My big problem with Hamill is that he turtles as a strike defense. He also has a problem of keeping his hands up. Also, the one takedown he got, he literally hugged and caressed Boestch until the ref made them stand up (Rashad would have been impressed). OK, that us alot of problems I have with him. I really think if Boestch hadn't have gone to for the takedown he would have won the fight. I've never been impressed with Hamill and I still am not. Good chin (considering he had to have eaten about 7 knees to the face), but that is about it.

Some thoughts on this event:

I didn't think any of the ref stoppages were too soon except for maybe the Alexander fight. Karo was done. Lauzon can't take 50 punches to the face and do nothing. There was 1:30 left in the round and no hope of him doing anything.

I have really started to enjoy watching Ken-Flo fight. Always moving, punching, kicking, whatever. He is rather exciting to watch.

Johnson looked awesome. Alot of it is that Speer really isn't that good. That has to be the KO of the night.

Edgar looked tiny compared to Maynard. The one problem I have with is the scoring of takedowns. I thought Edgar had the more effective striking, but Maynard won due to the fact of takedowns. I have no problem if getting points off takedowns, but a fighter really needs to do something with it. If you continually take someone down and they get up almost immediately, they should point as a get up or something. I don't know, just something I was thinking while watching this fight.

Glad to see my boy Alves won. Karo looked more out of shape than usual. I'd like to see a rematch with Fitch for Alves.

No way would Boetch have won that fight. He was completely gassed. He really needs to work on his cardio.

EXCELLENT night of fights...

If I would have bet on them they probably wouldnt have been to fun for me lol...Quite a few upsets (or should I say slight under dogs pulled it out) for the night...

Nate Diaz's finish is my absolute favorite submission win EVER haha

Definetly an enjoyable night....

I picked every fight except Maynard vs. Edgar and Lauzon vs. Florian. As soon as I saw Maynard and Edgar step into the cage, I knew Edgar had his work cut out for him. Like I said in my initial post, the size difference was HUGE. I felt really confident in my Lauzon pick after the first round, but Florian got the mount in the 2cd and Lauzon could'nt shake it. Really sucks that Lauzon got taken out of a dominant position due to illegal elbows from Florian. That was crap. They should've restarted in the same position.

Nate Diaz is my new hero! That was the sickest submission ever. I loved the fist clench and muscle flex after he locked it in. Diaz looked completely dead after the first round, and I thought for sure it was over when he had his arms trapped and was eating punches.

Epic victory!

Rest of the card was awesome, too. Tommy got KTFO hard.

Those elbows were not illegal. And a position in which you are getting pounded in the head with elbows is hardly advantageous. Lauzon was way down the full guard, and that is NOT a good position, as you witnessed.

I am tired of people wanting to take away from Florian. He was amazing tonight and has been amazing for quite a while now. It is about time people give him the respect he deserves. His determination is unrivaled.

Yeah, I really hated that for Tommy. He seems like a really likeable guy, but honestly, he had it coming. His standup is horrible. The way he holds his head up and out is just asking to eat shots. He honestly needs to get out of the Hughes camp. He needs the best standup training he can get and he needs it now.

If that's the way you see it earvinarp, that's fine. I guess that's why Herb Dean warned Florian. Time to see Florian vs. BJ. Let's see him get that ass whupped!
