Having thought about this. Lutter was about 3 seconds from getting that armbar submission. Interesting how it can go. Still though, his mind is on family now, not smashing in sombodys face.

To all MWs out there! Strategy to win against Lutter:
Let the guy get exhausted for 1 round and he'll get so sloppy in the second that you will be able to do whatever you want with him.
Lutter's conditioning is a joke. The guy should have never been a contender in the first place.

How do you think you would fare against Lutter ? Whats skill level are you in BJJ ? Just curious .... Lutter has some very good grappling / BJJ skills He mounted Anderson S and Rich Franklin. Thats hard to do and he done it rather easily. He did gas, . Got to agree with that. But he's in there doing it and we/ your sitting here dreaming it. Monday morning QB's at best..... WarDawg

oh and cody, I am Naterupe. I post simultaneously to amass a huge wealth of points...

Let's face it, Lutter is pretty much done after this last fight it was humiliating almost and if I were Dana White I would never let him fight in the UFC again. Lutter Vs. Silva 2 will never happen and if it does Lutter will get destroyed and humiliated once again
I am glad Franklin won.

WTF!? Your comment is just plain kindergaden bullcrap. What? Critics and fans do not have an opinion? I am a performer and I get cremated by the press at times by people who never set foot on a stage.

However, that's not to take away from the escape at all, because I admit that it was an awesome defense.

I have to admit when I saw Lutter get that armbar on Rich I thought it was over. I was impressed w/ Rich's all-around ground game b/c I have never seen him have to fight on the ground. I want to see Rich fight Hendo next and I believe that would be a super fight at MW in which I wouldnt be suprised if either guy won.....
I believe Lutter has absolutely no chance of fighting Silva now; I believe an impressive win against Rich (if he had finished the armbar) then Dana would have given him another shot, but now after that fight the blueprint to beat Lutter was exposed.....

The guy had the skill to beat Rich but not the ability to maintain the required pace to get it done. So I gues what I am saying is that he has the skill to be a great MMA fighter just not enough heart and that is a recipe for disaster against Rich.....

That was sad, Lutter basically threw the fight away by not coming in with proper cardio. Had he carried on like he did in the first 3/4 minutes I think he would have pulled off the upset in the 2nd or 3rd round.
But it was good to see Rich get a good win again. I really like that wild gnp he uses, he did the same thing in the Macdonald fight too.

maybe Lutter gassed b/c Franklin's conditioning was superior and he just couldn't keep up???

Lutter did very good untill he gassed. His long take downs costed a lot of energi(just like Shogun did against Forest) and he payed for them by getting hit a lot at the same time.
Feel sory for him, he was this close [] to finish the fight.
As somone said I think it might have been no escape if his leggs was not crossed but then he would have to move his hips closer to Franklins bodey wich could also have given him a chance to escape. I also belive Franklins strength explains a lot of how he was able roll out of it.
Not to many people manage to make that roll, it only work if the armbar is not tight enough. Out of all fighters Mark Hunt is one of the guys I have seen making the same move a copple of time. 2 times against W Silva I think
Over all a good fight, to bad Lutter had bad cardio/a bad day?
I see no good reason to bad mouth him at all, he gave it all.
After he gassed he took between 5-10 knock out punches wich tells me he have a lot of heart as well. He must have felt terrible when he gassed.
Good fight, to bad it did not last longer.

How long are people going to hang on to the idea that Lutter " almost won " in the Silva fight ? Having top mount does not mean you are winning or even close to winning. It is so odd to me that people STILL think Anderson was in trouble in that fight. I'm not bashing Lutter, saying that a fighter is over rated does not mean they suck. It means thay are over-rated. Lutter is over-rated and under motivated. I could careless if I ever see him fight again.

I think it's not he almost won. It's he put himself in the dominate position you can achieve in BJJ IMO. It's a position that can rain down enormous damage to the fighter on the bottom. I guess that the angle I'm looking at. He took A.S. down and Rich and improved his position and got mount. Thats saying something when it's against them two. Thats nice BJJ. Now his finishing/ cardio... Yeah it's seems to have been poor. I'm not Lutter fan personally. But love to watch a slick ground game. The Diaz brother's come to mind.

Cool.. I like a slick ground game too. That is the word I would use to describe the Diaz bro's ground game as well, very slick...

I just watched the fight...I knew the outcome but I was still surprised that Franklin escaped from that armbar too.
It makes me wonder...if Lutter is so amazing at submissions, how come he didn't finish it?

Guys like Lutter make me wish soccer kicks were allowed in the UFC. I hate it when guys shoot with no setup because they're so gassed/have bad wrestling/or have poor striking skills. They're should be a consequence to shooting in that way.

I agree. A good swift kick to the head would make it so they stopped prolonging fights by going to the ground when they are too tired to do anything else.
IM SORRY BUT YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL FIGHTER LUTTER, YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO OTHER THAN TRAIN FOR A FIGHT, GASSING AFTER 3 MINUTES IS OUT OF THE QUESTION.
Sorry, but Lutter and Starnes need not ever show their face in any MMA competition ever again as far as I am concerned.

Either allow soccer kicks or implement a couple hundred volt penalty.

Man, there's no one in FF with Lutter's skills. Does that mean that people shouldn't voice their opinions? I did not understand the point of your question. Sorry about the KG bs.
