Default Bisping Vs. McCarthy

Did anyone else think that Bisping going to a lighter weight class was a good idea. I thought that was the best he had looked in a while. His punches seemed fluid and he moved a whole lot better. I think this will be a good move.

I guess we got to see that Charles McCarthy still needs to work on that BJJ, that he said was one of the best. It is good, but not one of the best.

Bisping looked alright. It was hard for me to tell how hard those knees Bisping was landing were. He did drop McCarthy pretty good though at the end.

I loved the taunts that McCarthy did after Bisping's huge flurry of knees. I still don't like Bisping, but he looked much better in this fight than his others. A couple months ago I would've said that this was due to McCarthy being a much lesser fighter, but after seeing his stand-up defense and that monster takedown, I gave him some more respect.

Bisping looked pretty damn sharp on the feet IMO. He showed against Rashad that he's got good takedown defense, and seems to have cardio for days. He gets a bit reckless at times like he did last night, but he defintely looks like he found a home @ 185. Not a huge fan but I am happy that there's more talent now @ MW.

I thought he looked by far the best we have seen him.

Anyone know what the flag was that they showed for Bisping during the tale of the tape? It wasn't Britian.

I don't remember, but it was probably England's flag.

This?

McCarthy hadn't fought since 11/11/06. He was a sacrificial lamb to build back some credibility. I would have paid $500 to see Charles finish that armbar.

I agree McCarthy was a "sacrificial lamb." That said, Bisping looks like a legit MW, with speed and good overall game. He should have fought Franklin last night, instead of both Rich and himself facing lesser opponents.

I thought Bisping looked great. I think he will be tough as nails in the MW division!

The flag was the St. George's Cross.

He looked excellent tonight, by far his best appearance in the UFC, and conducted himself well in his post match interview.

You American's jumped on his back following Hamill so its only fair you give credit where its due.

I thought Bisping looked a lot better at this weight, I wasn't impressed with McCarthy at all. He didn't really bring anything to this fight apart from pulling some funny faces at Bisping, (he did get one great takedown though). Although Bisping is known as a striker he still needs to improve this area of his game if he is to provide any sort of challenge for the top of this division.

Style & speed-wise, I thought Bisping looked really good, looked sharp.
It wasn't really the best gage of how well he will do against the rest of the 185ers, since McCarthy executed the 2nd most bizarre gameplan of the night (right behind Starnes' Velodrome strategy). I mean near armbar aside, it was tough for Bisping to not be sharp and accurate, when he was essentially teeing off on a stationary target for a good portion of the time.
I'd really like to see how he fares against someone like MacDonald now, just to see how he handles someone who is a little more proven on the ground and with submissions in the UFC. Actually...Bisping vs. Leben would be one helluva barn burner that I wouldn't mind seeing.

I agree, he deserves some props b/c he looked really good at MW even though I dont believe McCarthy is a very good guage. I want to see him fight Cote, Leben, Rich, or Quarry. Anyone of those fights would probably be decent fights w/ someone getting finished. Franklin would probably dominate him but I would still like to see that fight.....

Now that I think about it, Quarry is a logical candidate for Bisping. The UFC seems to love matching up TUF alum, and they are on the same schedule. I'd actually be interested in seeing that one.

I agree that they should match Bisping up with Quarry next. That would be a good fight.

I've yet to watch all of UFC 83 but I did catch the 1st couple of fights and thought that Bisping looked at ease in the fight with a lot fluid combinations and picked apart McCarthy.
Cant wait to get home tonight and watch the rest of the fights. Looking forward to GSP vs Serra even though I know the result thankfully I dont know how it was finished.
