Default Unaired Prelims - UFC 83

Typically these are up by the time I get home from the bar, but they are just getting to them now. Only 2 are available for download as of now, I'll give my thoughts and continue to update as they become available.

Cain Velasquez vs. Brad Morris - Not much to this one, Cain caught Morris with a left hook early, stayed calm and pounded him out in various positions over the next minute or so. Mazzagati should have stopped it much earlier than he did, Morris took some serious shots. Impressed with Cain so far though.

Demian Maia vs. Ed Herman - All I can say is wow about this one. Maia is brilliant on the ground. Decent takedowns, absolutely seamless transitions from position to position, and sub attempt to sub attempt, a beautiful thing to watch. He began to gas towards the end of the first, and looked a bit sloppy in the second, but that didn't stop him from slapping on an omaplata and transitioning to a failed triangle attempt. Herman was gassed a bit as well from defending, and the 2nd triangle was a winner. If Maia steps up his strength and conditioning program a bit, he'll be damn hard to beat.

velasquez v morris

both of these guys came out looking to bang and it could have gone either way. morris got rocked early and never really recovered. velasquez did a good job of staying on him, and morris took a lot of punishment without giving up

maia v herman

i didnt think either fighter looked at that impressive in this fight. i cant believe both of them were gassed by round two. i felt maia telegraphed that triangle, i thought that herman would be good enough to stay out of it. good finish though by rolling to mount. kinda funny that herman refused to tap

Herman didn't tap because he wants to stay in the UFC. Dana is watching remember. Losing is bad for him at this point, not tapping makes a bad thing better. Know what I mean? Shows guts at least.
