In CB defense.. Sometimes you can be hesitant and ready to tap and kinda commit to it by accident. Kinda like checking a swing in baseball. But regardless if you move your hand in that manor, it's a tap.Sometimes you really don't realize you did it. Ive been called on it myself during a live rolling session. You fight a powerful struggle between your mind and body when pain is being applied. Body says tap. Mind says don't do it. . Been there and done that. I'm sure anyone that trains knows exactly what I'm talking about. Cheers WarDawg

Oh no doubt I can understand the feeling, but the way he reacted afterwards was like he was blaming Herb for a bad stoppage.

Guys sometimes tapping is like checking swing in baseball. You do it and don't realize you do it. It's a battle between your mind and body. Your body can out maneuver your mind sometimes. Anyone that has trained in submission I'm sure knows what I'm talking about. I really think he couldn't believe he tapped. CB will be a good fighter. He just don't have that humble attitude like Amir. I'm glad Amir won. WarDawg

no doubt that that happens often

i just think that CB attempted a plum fake tap, thats why he went back to defending so quickly maybe amir would let up just enough to give some wiggle room

a wigglewiggle umph, wigglewiggle wha, wigglewiggle umph ha umph!!

but amir was a badger and badgered CB by holding the armbar and CB failed at his false tap

I don’t like the attitude of some of the fans who always like to complain. When they say if you had a quick fight that they wished it was longer and if you have a long fight they say you should have beaten this guy quicker. Some people you just can’t please. If it is so easy, they can put on a glove and do it themselves. I’ll watch them fight.

This is great!

I bet Sadollah on a whim when TUF first started. I never expected him to win the whole thing!

It's still too early to know if he'll make any impact, but he is entertaining to watch.

OBT, I believe you m,ay be on to something here. It was what I suspected/wondered but was keeping to myself. His over-reaction when Herb called him on it is what makes me believe it was an attempt at getting Amir to loosen up so he could get free, not so much a normal tap. Two problems. Amir didn't bite, and Herb saw the tap and called him on it. I also felt he CB thinking if he did it "light" enough, then maybe if Herb did "stop the fight" he could protest loudly and get a "restart".

Or, it could possibly be exactly what WarDawg stated above, and he didn't even truly realize he made contact with Amir's leg on the tap. I suppose I should give him the benefit of the doubt.

I have never seen a fake tap in all my fight watching. I'm not saying it hasn't happened .But Ive never seen it. It would also be the dumbest thing you could ever try to do also. Because just like what happened Herb Dean saw a Tap and stopped the fight. There is no resetting a fight once the ref stops it. I personally discredit the Elvis sighting / UFO theories. He Tapped out of panic and then couldn't believe he tapped. I would need to see the Arm bar again but it didn't look like Amir had it fully locked over due to the placement of CB's elbow. CB tapped. I think he was just in shock that he did or made a movement that he did. Great stoppage by Herb Dean. It is what it is... WarDawg

I can see Amir having a lot of exciting fights in the UFC and him becoming a real crowd favourite. Very few people have hearts the size of his.

You know I agree with anyone that says that a big part is mental. When I was working at a software firm a few years ago, my supervisor, a big athletic dude (around 6'3'' and a solid 240 lbs) with a military background wanted to play this game with me (5'10" 185 lbs) to see who could withstand the most pain. He was stronger and bigger than me so I guess he assumed he would beat me. Well the object of the game was to connect our fingers together and drill our knuckles into each other's fingers. <weird game I know>

I mentally told myself that I wouldn't give in no matter what. And that even if my finger broke I wouldn't give in.There was pain, but I wouldn't give in to it.

Well, some of the co-workers were stunned because my supervisor had beaten ALL of them but me. The difference was that I was willing to endure anything, even a broken finger if it meant winning. And my supervisor was not...

It was all mental.

His quirky attitude will be a welcome change to the Alpha Male garbage we see too much of in MMA.

I really like what I've seen from Amir. Has a very Forest-like peronality. Humble, funny, and not afraid to make fun of himself. And oh yeah, he's pretty darn impressive as a fighter as well.

even though i have no doubt that what CB did was a "tap" he actually did not sumbit to the armbar. im fairly sure the rules say that you must tap three times

in the sakuraba v royce gracie fight sakuraba kept tapping once, tapping twice just to play with royce and frustrate him

I wondered about that "three times" thing...saw this somewhere:

NJ State Athletic Control Board - Proposed Rules - Rules Governing Boxing, Extreme Wrestling and Sparring Exhibitions and Performance Bond Procedure

Quote:
(a) The following are the types of bout results:

1. Submission by:
i. Tap Out:When a contestant physically uses his hand to indicate that he or she no longer wishes to continue; or
ii. Verbal tap out:When a contestant verbally announces to the referee that he or she does not wish to continue...
but I did not see a mention of the # of times to constitute a tap. In the early days of the UFC, I thought they used the 3 taps rule...but maybe it changed. It seems everything is open to interpretation - even if it means Herb Dean or Dan Miragliotta.

Either way, UFC Iran is proud of their boy, Amir.
