Default Sean Sherk HL Video

I'm really looking forward to Sean Sherk vs Georges St. Pierre at UFC 56. For those not as familiar with Sherk, here's a link to a highlight video on Sherk's site.

another grab and hold down on the ground fighter... im curious how he will react to someone as strong as GSP, or react to getting hit in the face so hard and fast that GSP will unleash on him

Thanks for that Gygax. That is the way ground and pound is supposed to be executed. That guy is amazing and does not go for typical lay and pray tactics and has the best takedowns and slams next to Hughes.

Yeah Jonny, Sherk has often been compared to being a clone of Matt Hughes. He is extremely active on the ground which is why he has been successful in Pride's Bushido as well. He is pretty much the only person who has easily taken down Matt Hughes during their fight.

LTB - How many full fight's of Sherk's have you seen to make that statement?

Thanks Gygax

I like Sherk a lot and I think he will pose a few problems for St. Pierre, and I say that as a massive GSP fan. Sherk has amazing strength, and it's a good job that GSP is equally as strong. I have a feeling GSP will prefer to keep this one standing, just my thought.

I'm still backing Georges all the way though.

I agree. I still feel GSP takes this. But Sherk is the real deal. The only reason he hasn't returned to the UFC sooner was due to the contract controversy. This has the makings of a classic.

LTB - You didn't answer the question. How many full fights have you seen Sherk in to accuse him of being "another grab and hold down on the ground fighter"? If you are going to make that accusation, what fights are you talking about?

You mention GSP's fight with karo, what about Sherk's two wins over Karo including finishing him once, something GSP was unable to do.

Like I said, GSP is the favorite and is probably who I'm rooting for. But labeling Sherk as a lay and pray is off base.

i believe sherk has had about 30 something fights... ive seen about 10 to 15 of them... GSP was unable to finish karo because it was one of his first fights. i believe his first fight in the UFC.. i dont mind sherk, i just think he is a B level matt hughes, with slightly worse takedowns, slams, GnP ect... a great tuneup for GSP for a fantasic rematch with hughes

I think he will give GSP a great fight I am curious to see what happens when it hits the ground. But I must say I will always back my fellow Canadians. Go GSP!

What are you talking about luvtobox.. GSP basically jumped onto the UFC map after defeating Karo at UFC 46. The only loss GSP has ever had was to Matt Hughes.

Haha. This one had me laughing but I avoided it as to not start drama so since he was hit with the KO I just have to say that the only way someone has seen this many fights of Sherks is if they went to all the live events there just aren't that many available. And anyone who has seen this many Sherk fights would be amazed. I've only seen a couple and I know he is amazing and will probably give St. Pierre his toughest fight yet. This is the fight I'm looking forward to most.

I was thinking the exact same thing, Jonny.
