This is weeks and weeks after they had nothing but good things to say about each other. Sure Serra could have said nothing but that is not him, he could have said nothing about hughes either but he chose to speak his mind after hughes proved to be an ass and not before. He is being honest, I would rather have that and him be a bit harsh than being a liar. He also knows this sells tickets, watch the video of him in the resturant with his girlfriend he calls hughes a dick and says 'i sell tickets'. While I don't like the idea of people saying **** just to sell tickets (there is only 1 Ali and even he was wrong in some of what he said) at least he is being honest.

If he was talking as much trash as possible you wouldn't have had to cut out 3/4s of what he said. But you did, because he was more hurt than anything. When a friend betrays your trust, you're going to be pissed off. And the only thing he says there that's actually talking trash is "Hit the road Frenchy". The rest of what you quoted is his brutally honest responce to what GSP had said. If he wanted to talk trash he would have just called GSP the same names he's been calling Hughes.

This whole thing sounds like a bunch of hype from a misinterpretation of a few sentences of GSP who's English is not that great.

I agree that GSP gets confused with English at times and struggles to get his point across. I have seen it happen before to him and to other athletes. We take for granted that public people should be articulate in English, and that is unfair.
That said, what really bothered me in this thread have been been the "Frenchy" comment by Serra and the "ritard" comment by some members. Both of which may have to do with the above-mentioned fact of GSP being a French speaker.
But, in any case, what they should do is fight again soon. They seem to have the public eager to see it.

He didn't seem to have any issues getting his point across the first couple of weeks after the fight, when all of us were saying how much of a good guy he was for not saying.......then he went and said it. I don't think 'I only trained for 2 weeks' and 'I am training as hard as I ever have' is a translation or articulating problem.
The Frenchy thing is a bit over the top but what is he gonna say when a guy is taking cheap shots at him? That he isn't good (cause we all know GSP is that good), or that he over estimated GSP (that would never happen), no he won't say those things cause that would be a lie. A guy is taking cheap shots at me, I take them back. Could I take the high rode sure but GSP started this and when in Rome (especially when it will help sell tickets also). Does he hate all French people? I would doubt it. Does he hate all people on tractors (like he made fun of Hughes)? I doubt it.

THAT is the GSP i know and love. Much props to him. Now that he admitted he made a mistake, lets see if some of the nuthuggers will. People screw up, especially when under pressure. Thank you for being a man and stepping up.

I am glad he did admit he was wrong but in the interview it does appear that GSP did have problems expressing himself in English causing a lot of this drama.

Yeah, that was what I expected GSP to do.
He apologized and I'm glad he did.
But...

he did say this, but this drama wasn't caused by some language-barrier. He understood what he was saying.
He didn't really settle which of his stories was really true either; the "I trained hard" or "I didn't train" one. But meh, the most important thing is he apologized.
Everyone makes mistakes and this was his first one really.

I think it was more along the lines of he wasn't able to properly express himself and he didn't stop to think about what he said before he said it.

GSP didn't say one thing that could be attributed to english not being his first language. Go back and listen to his comments. It was as clear as day. I'll give you the he didn't think before he spoke, but it is a huge stretch of the imagination to say that he was misinterpreted cause his english isn't that good. Glad to hear he apologized though, but he deserved everything Serra gave him except for the Frenchy comment I suppose.

No I am not saying that he was misinterpreted but rather he wasn't able to communicate effectively because it is his second language. I'm listening to music and I dont want to relisten to the interview but it seemed clear to me that he hadn't expressed himself as well as he had wanted to. With one listen to the interview that seemed pretty clear to me.

Yeah I like GSP but he was just repeating blah blah blah over and over in the interview.
I think he's got some things to deal with outside the Octagon and then hopefully he'll come back like Randy.

I have to say that I back Matt Serra on this one. This isn't the GSP I remember watching.

GSP should have never said what he did. Even if it was true. I think it has forever damaged the image that GSP had about always being a gentleman about his fights.
As for what matt said, well ive always been a serra fan, and i think he said some good stuff there.
