Default Kongo says he is fighting Cro Cop

Kongo claims he’s fighting Cro Cop « Five Ounces of Pain!

Cheick Kongo is quoted on the Dutch website GroundandPound.de as saying that his next fight is against Mirko Cro Cop this September at UFC 75 in London.

    The article is available at:

Ground & Pound - Deutschlands Kampfsportportal Nr. 1 - Cheick Kongo bestätigt Kampf gegen "Cro Cop"

There article itself is not translated on the site, but multiple people have submitted translations to several message forums.
This is the fight that makes the most sense in my opinion. Kongo will make it an exciting fight while it should give Cro Cop a chance to get a good KO.

I'm not too excited about this fight. The way the HW division is right now, there could be some of the best HW fights ever taking place. I don't think Kongo deserves to fight Cro Crop, but it will be an exciting fight, however insignificant it might be.

gr, why? this is basically cro cop's "can" fight. i dont think he's on cro cops striking level and i doubt he'll keep him on the ground. i hope it will be a good fight.

I don't think this is a "can" for Crocop.
Sure, Kongo is NOWHERE NEAR as highly ranked as Crocop, but styles make fights. These guys have the same strength in standup.

And CC is the favorite of course, but he can get caught.
He got caught by Gonzaga (the GnP affected it of course), but you see upsets in kickboxing all the time too.

I hope this fight (if it happens) just delivers what everyone expects from it. A standup-war with one of the guys going to sleep.

    WAR CC.

PS. I would have preferred him fighting Sylvia.
He could have gained more from that fight by beating the former champion.
It's a fight everyone wants to see.
And it would be a standup-war as well.

i concur fully. that would a been a great fight. the most dangerous silvia is a non-champ sylvia, and the most dangerou cro cop is a cro cop who just got beat.

oh well, congo may prove to be a formidable foe...

I think this would be a very exciting matchup. Of course I would give it to cro cop though.

I see it being short work for Mirko. Both are good kickboxers but Crocop is at a whole other level. I don't see it going to a decision.

Looking forward to the fight. I like watching Kongo fight, should be a good standup match.

I wouldn't be suprised if this happened. IMO Kongo has the most viscious punches out there. If it were a boxing match there is NO way I would bet against Kongo... However, Mirko's kicks are devastating. It's going to be interesting to see how he deals with those. Kongo has been getting better with each fight so it will be a great show. Cro-cop should exchange with Kongo enough to take him down where he is uncomfortable... perhaps Cro-cop can make full use of those elbows in some GNP action.

Mirko has fought the best of the best in K-1 and has a positive record there. What makes anyone think that a guy like Kongo, who is basically a kick boxer, can win against Mirko?

The way I see this fight is as a redemption match for Filipovic against an opponent that looks difficult in the books but who, in reality, is not. It is a great move for the UFC because it will give Mirko back his title contention status without him having to worry about losing the fight.

Because he is the one guy in all of MMA, with the exception of Melvin Guillard, who could make the transition to professional boxing the easiest. And after being on his back taking elbows the last fight, I am not too sure Mirko will want it to go to the ground.. even though it might not be a bad place to be against Kongo.. With Kongo's ability to take someone's head off with his fists, you have to take him seriously.

I have no problem betting against anybody on this one. Mirko will KO Kongo, or he just cannot fight anymore and should retire.

Cro Cop should be able to finish Kongo by the end of second round. Although after seeing Cro Cop on his back he should avoid being there. Should be a good fight, I just see Kongo getting kicked in the right side of his head. Cro Cop gets finished he should just call it a career. I hear he plans to retire at the end of his contract anyway which only has two fights left on it.

I am stoked for this fight.... Kongo has some brutal stand up! Cro Cop has an advantage being left handed... Size wise they are about the same. Kongo can strike and wont back down so it will be exciting. If Kongo can work smart and fast enough he will mow down cro cop. Those are two big ifs though. Cro Cop likes to control the pace and work at his own speed. If you can take that away from him you can make him make mistakes. Kongo has a huge chance here but it is a long shot. I think this fight will end in KO either late in round one or mid round two. Both these guys will put on a great fight i hope. Cro Cop definitely has more to lose here and will probably be looking to redeem him self after the gonzaga disaster. If Cro Cop takes control and does what he does in every fight he should have this one. Kongo needs to work hard and fast and keep his hands up! I am so excited for this one!

I don't see Kongo having a chance in this fight.

Mirko has a cage now where he trains, he will be angry and hungry after his loss to GG and just a all around better fighter than Kongo.

Also don't forget Mirko has plenty of K1 experience so his is in no way a new comer to the kick boxing game Kongo likes to play.

Also Kongo has no ground game what so ever, it is almost painful to watch.

i say Mirko but it is the year of upsets
    shut up and fight!

I know I should be taking Mriko but if this fight happens my points are going on Kongo. I think these guys match up really well and it could go either way. Mirko has the edge but Kongo is no punk and if he doesnt have to worry about the take down he could be scary
