UFC Considers Fedor Signing Inevitable
Quote:
The UFC considers the signing of famed PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko (26-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) to be “inevitable” and is confident a deal could be reached soon, according to a UFCjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, MMA news, UFC rumors, UFC gossip, fighter interviews and event previews and recaps - UFCjunkie.com) source close to the organization.
Ever since Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta (primary owners of Zuffa LLC, the UFC’s parent company) announced the purchase of the Japanese-based fight organization earlier this year, some of PRIDE’s best fighters have been signed to fight exclusively in the UFC. However, the one fighter most wanted by fans — and UFC officials alike — is Emelianenko, the PRIDE 2004 Grand Prix winner and a heavyweight champ since 2003.
UFC president Dana White stated in a recent newspaper interview that he was close to signing Emelianenko to a UFC deal.
Our source says that the general consensus inside the UFC is that it’s a done deal:
“Everyone [associated with the UFC] expects the deal will get done. They think it’s inevitable. They expect Fedor to be in a UFC fight before the end of the year.“
If true, the arrival of Emelianenko would mean an instant impact on the UFC’s heavyweight division. Once considered paper-thin, the UFC’s crop of heavyweights has suddenly risen to respectability. Current 43-year-old champ Randy Couture battles Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 74 in a title shot. Despite the loss to Gonzaga, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic remains a top contender. Andrei Arlovski, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum could all be in the title picture, as well.
Emelianenko, though, would bring an unparalleled resume to the UFC. With a near-perfect 26-1 record, he suffered his lone loss in a 2000 RINGS event against Tsuyoshi Kohsaka. The bout was stopped just 17 second in because of a cut caused by a glancing elbow from Kohsaka (Emelianenko later avenged the loss in a 2005 PRIDE Bushido event).
Since the loss, it’s been pure domination of some of the sport’s top heavyweight fighters, including a 2005 unanimous-decision win over Filipovic. Emelianenko rematch with Filipovic could be one of the biggest — if not the biggest — fights in MMA history.

Thats what everyone thought when Mirko came to the UFC.
I can't wait to see Fedor in the UFC! He better be training with elbows and in a cage unlike some other people....

Fedor will be fine, he's a lot better on the ground that CroCop, so there goes that theory. Let's remember knees to the head are allowed in Pride. I think he can handle elbows.

though i always Favored Cro Cop when he fought Fedor i think that maybe fedor won't think he can walk through everyone and he might train in a cage like Cro Cop is now doing. WAR CRO COP. This is good for Fedor because if he defeats people in the UFC people can now not say that he will lose to UFC fighters or he might lose and show that he really can be beaten.

I don't know why Fedor and Mirko would be so huge really - as bad as Mirko is, compared to Fedor he is pretty one-dimensional.

IMO Mirko and Fedor aren't in the same league.

I would guess someone like Herring which will allow Fedor to do a variety of things and really show himself to the new viewers. I doubt they'll put him in a title shot for his first fight and Dana would probably wait for him to fight Cro Cop in a title shot with either holding the belt. That would be a crazy payday for the UFC.

"Tim Sylvia". it makes me sick that he was mentioned in the same sentence as the rest of the heavyweights in the article. he will never again hold a belt thank god. Andrei Arlovski vs fedor would be nice to see no need for fedor cc 3 until cc comes back around and he will. you can never count him out or his high leg kick to the head.

I guess I don't understand your words toward Sylvia. You talk about him like he personally did something to you. "Makes me sick that he was mentioned"..."he will never again hold a belt thank god." Give me a break. We all agree that Tim is not the most exciting fighter but he still had a good run at defending his belt AND he defeated Arlovski twice who you hope fights Fedor. He is 23-3! Give the man some respect.

he did everything he could to "hold on to the belt". never went for the win. not a true champion imo. perhaps he will come back hungry and prove me wrong tim never did anything personally to me except bore me in main events. styles make fights an i think arlovski fedor would be a nice fight to see if nothing else a good warm up fight for fedor.

True knee's to the head are allowed, but i don't think knees are nearly as bad for opening up a cut as elbows and fedor is a notorious bleeder.
It will be awesome if this is true though, cant wait to see him in the ufc.
