Default Alessio Sakara vs Houston Alexander UFC 75

Posted by UFC Junkie on June 29, 2007 at 6:15 pm ET

Alessio SakaraPromising UFC newcomer Houston Alexander (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will face UFC veteran Alessio Sakara (11-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at UFC 75 in September, according to Alexander’s camp.

Earlier today, UFCjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, MMA news, UFC rumors, UFC gossip, fighter interviews and event previews and recaps - UFCjunkie.com) debunked recent rumors that Alexander would instead face light heavyweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter 1 Forrest Griffin. The rumors surfaced from alleged comments Alexander made at a regional MMA show this past weekend.

Instead, Alexander has agreed to fight Sakara, who most recently defeated Victor Valimaki with a swift first-round TKO at UFC 70. Both fighters are expected to sign fight papers next week to make the bout official.

Last month at UFC 71, Alexander — a 6-to-1 underdog — defeated the heavily favored Keith Jardine with a quick and stunning first-round knockout. The Omaha, Neb. DJ and hip-hop school lecturer hasn’t lost a professional fight in more than six years.

He’ll now take on Sakara. Earlier this month, UFCjunkie.com announced that the Italian boxer was expected to appear on the UFC 75 card, which takes place in London.

Before his UFC 70 victory, Sakara had lost two in a row (to Dean Lister and Drew McFedries). In previous UFC fights, he defeated Elvis Sinosic and earned a no-contest (groin kick) with Ron Faircloth. He’ll now go for the first back-to-back UFC victories of his career.

UFC 75 takes place at The O2 arena on Sept. 22.

To bad the Griffin fight isn't true, but this still looks like a good matchup. I say Sakara by TKO Round 2

What's with all the bogus rumours these days? Is it because the magazines are trying too hard to scoop one another, or are people on Fight Forum posting stuff that's too weak? If MMA Weekly doesn't have a rumour, it seems it's highly suspect.
Randy Couture: I’m more of a battle of attrition, take you down, beat you up till you really don’t want to fight anymore, type of fighter

BJ Penn: It's just the wrong time to fight BJ Penn.

This rumor was from UFCJunkie, which is usually pretty sold. If they feel that a rumor is questionable, they usually make that known in the article. It seems like they have confidence with this one.

I would've rather see him fight Forrest, but I'm not complaining about this one. Hope Houston could win, but I really don't know what'll happen.

Sakara is a tough guy but he was KO'ed by McFedries, who fights at 185 lbs. Alexander may be short, but he looks to me like a true 205 pounder with a lot of power in his hands. Sakara is not likely to take the fight to the ground and standing up I could not picture him beating Jardine. Thus, I do the numbers and I say that Alexander is KO'ing Sakara in the first round. Makes sense?

thats actually very true i can see alexander winning by ko, if he once again takes the fight to sakara right away like he did against jardine, and if he just keeps hitting him he'll end him like mcfedries did.

who do you think hits harder alexander or mcfedries?

I think Alexander has more kilos behind his bigger punches. McFedries is a powerful guy but his best assets are precision and speed. Alexander looks like he can bang on your arms while you protect your head, and still knock you down. Sakara has his plate full.

Yes but it hasn't been confirmed and I know it says at UFC 75 but september also has UFC 76, other factors are work permits etc.
