Fedor by End of 07 - Start of 08....Says White
Quote:
July 9, 2007
By Gary Herman
Special to CBS SportsLine.com
Immediately after Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans fought to a draw, Ortiz asked for a rematch.
That wish was granted a few moments later.
"We have to see a rematch between Tito and Rashad. It was a good fight," UFC president Dana White said at a press conference following UFC 73 on Saturday. "The rematch will happen almost immediately. They will not fight anyone else in between."
Other notes from the UFC 73 post-fight press conference:
Pride's future
The biggest story in mixed martial arts for 2007 was the UFC purchase of rival organization Pride Fighting Championships. At this point, nothing has been decided about the future of the organization.
"When we bought Pride, we were going to put on events in both Japan and the U.S., but we need to have a TV deal to get it going," White said. "The deal needs to be in both countries."
In the meantime, many of Pride's fighters will be competing in the UFC.
"Pride has some great guys. They have contracts, and they need to fight," White said.
The champ is coming
Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko has been rumored to be entering the UFC for a quite a few months now. White confirmed that Emelianenko's debut is imminent.
"We are planning to have Fedor fighting in the UFC at the end of 2007 or early 2008," White said.
Penn to remain a lightweight ... for now
Despite some indications to the contrary, B.J. Penn will not be moving back to 170 pounds right away. Penn's recent defeat of Jens Pulver on the Ultimate Fighter 5 finale opened up a new option for "The Prodigy."

I'm won't be so sure of that. I have a feeling Fedor's "2nd" lost will be in the cage.

End of '07, or the start of '80? That's 6 freakin months! Are you kidding me? I realize that there is probably an issue with his ties to Bodog, but come on!

Dana I will believe it when I see it. Much like Silva/Liddell I think Dana's mouth is writing check that Zuffa can not cash. i would be suprised to see Fedor at anytime in the cage.

Yeah, everyone eventually has their day, but Fedor is a friggin' cyborg. It'll be very exciting to see him fight in the UFC.

its not whether they CAN, its whether they WANT to....with the peanuts they pay to most of their fighters...im sure zuffa has the bank roll to get just about anyone they want to.
it all comes down to demand. if cro cop was the champion, then bringing in fedor would make perfect sense....fedor vs crocop 2 in the ufc would be a huge draw and would obviously make huge sense for zuffa to cash in on...
in the mean time they want to make the most out of the fighters they have already bought, and try to wait fedors $$$$ down....just my thoughts.
on a side note i would LOVE, just like everyone else, for fedor to fight in the UFC tommorow.

I think BJ fighting at LW is a good thing. Sure, the guy is a complete freak of nature and could be a tough test at any weight, but he looked to be in really good shape during the Pulver fight. I think BJ adding some cardio to his game will make him all the more dangerous, and I just don't see him being able to keep that cardio at WW.

I agree w/ this as well; not sayin he will but if anyone can figure out a way to do it......it is Randy.
I would bet Dana is praying Randy wins against GG so this match can happen. The one Pride fighter where notority is not an issue is Fedor simply b/c he is considered the best MMA fighter in the world.....bar-none.
